The YourDuino.com Newsletter – May 23, 2011
Hello and welcome to YourDuino! This is our first newsletter*, and the beginning of what we hope will be many conversations about making high-tech things with Arduino and Electronics. The conversation will grow as you respond and give us your thoughts and ideas.
We will be telling you about new ideas and projects, new Tutorials and How-To on our Arduino-Information WIKI (click here), and more about interesting devices we have found in the amazing electronics marketplace called Shenzhen.
"We" is Terry King and Jun Peng, the originators of YourDuino, who became close friends in China over the past few years. Now Terry is in Saudi Arabia (Italy next year) and Peng is in Shenzhen, China, on the mainland near Hong Kong. You can read
“About Us” Here. and if you're interested, here's a look at
Peng's China.
Below are a couple of photos Peng took at the huge SEG Electronics Market in Shenzhen. There are about 900 shops on 10 floors of this complex, and every conceivable electronics part is there, somewhere. It’s like the Radio Row of New York, where Terry went with his Dad in the 1950’s, and where his “Scrounging for Parts” passion was born.
Peng and Terry together now are on the prowl for interesting parts and great bargains to bring to you. Over the next few weeks we will introduce you to more of the interesting people and places in this Electronics heaven. We hope you will take advantage of this unique era of great things for us all to experiment with. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
*Our apologies if you don't want to receive this newsletter which is not coordinated with the YourDuino Shop "Newsletter Opt-out". Just click
Unsubscribe And if your friends would like to subscribe, just email
ne...@yourduino.com .
So please join the conversation by telling us about parts you would like us to stock, especially interesting sensors and communications devices. If you are a Teacher or MakerSpace etc. please get in touch with your needs for Start Sets and Kits. If you need quantities of parts, let us know. And tell us about the things you find difficult to understand or get working, so we can add to our Tutorials and the Arduino-Information WIKI.
Tell us about your projects and experiments. If you send us an interesting project in a form that we can use to share it with other people, we'll send you a small "Care Package" of related parts.
Here's what we are planning:
- Our "Arduino-Info" How-To WIKI: http://arduino-info.wikispaces.com/ is where to find information, tutorials, suggested hook-ups and example Software Sketches that you can cut and paste. And projects Like This.
- This newsletter, which will include more information from you, the readers. Please respond to ne...@yourduino.com
- A Blog (Not in place yet) where you can easily ask and answer questions and help us know better how to make YourDuino work for you.
- Technical Question and Discussion Forums: We strongly suggest you use the official Arduino forums at http://arduino.cc/forum/. We don't want to duplicate that, and it's best if we all communicate and help each other in one place. You will find the forums easy to use and friendly.
- Our detailed Tutorials about Arduino. We are working on reorganizing this and combining earlier work Terry did on YourDuino.com with our Arduino-Info Wiki.
