trolls and spam

the groups i subscribe to are being over run by trolls and spam

one of the best lists i am on has a troll that has never constructively contributed to the discussion and just makes derogatory remarks

this makes one think twice before opening an email. i dislike the idea of people being 'turned of' or unsubscribing because of a "bad apple"

if we moderate - it takes longer to share because someone has to be available to verify the messages - this increases the time it takes to communicate and makes it less 'instantaneous'

we could have multiple moderators so someones' sleep does not hold up the show..

across the board, the open community needs some kind of 'trusted user' database or something - i realize there are some options available but none are currently being used.

any ideas?


i know this is all off topic, but i think it costs us too much if even one user is taken offline by malware

Hey

I can't speak for your other groups, but I've found MakerScan to be an awesome group for discussing and actually doing research and hacking on actual prototype scanners. Having a group filled with enthusiastic people who support the people who do things is often the key to having a positive group and I think we're onto that track here.

As the moderator of this group, if you have an issue with a troll just let me know and I'll take care of it.
