Recently moved from lurking in the virtual shadows, to participating
in the next Industrial Revolution! More of an interest/ability in the
2D/3D CAD side of things and have time and access to laser cutter, so
if there is any 3D prototyping to do, I might be able to help.
Came across the latest issue of Make which has a focus on Desktop
Manufacture. I see that there was reference to splinescan in a
previous post, but after a well documented build in Make, it does seem
that things are happening on splinescan.co.uk Interestingly, it is in
a box about Cupcake size....
Keep the ball rolling, I too want to be able scan and print in 3D on
the same desk!
Is the article in Make posted online anywhere?

- Thanks to the people at Make for allowing me to link to this.
Things are indeed happening on Splinescan. I'm running a little behind
schedule because of Holidays/bad weather/invasion by space monkeys/
etc... but I should be releasing the scanning software next week. It's
90% done, so it's really just a matter of getting myself into the
office and staring at the computer until my forehead starts to bleed.
I'm really quite anxious to make the scanner work with the printer,
because I think they'll work really well together. I also really like
the laser-cut chassis of the cupcake, and future versions of the
scanner might adopt this manufacturing strategy. The main thing to
change in the future is the motor controller, which I would like to
change for an arduino. It shouldn't be too difficult to do, but I have
an astonishingly large list of things that need to be done.
Thanks,
Andrew
