Hi,

I just completed my prusa from makergear. I triple checked all
wiring, and then turned it on. All seemed good, temperature readings
were working, from both nozzle and bed etc.

I clicked +1 on the interactive page in repsnapper, motor twitched and
didn't complete a full step. I tried the other axis, same thing... Z
axis didn't move at all.

After some tinkering, and checking wiring diagrams, I have a feeling
the stepper wires are not correct.

I followed the reprap wiki documentation, as well as Brock Trice's
notes. It's stated that the correct wiring is:

red-blue-green-black.

My stepper motors came with red-blue-green-yellow. I substituted
yellow for black, and wired it all up.

Now I'm wondering, especially after doing a ohm test on one of the
stepper motors... a pair should have a slight resistance no? However
red-blue is infinite. Red AND Green however has a 3 ohm resistance.
Green and Yellow also has a infinite resistance, while blue and yellow
is at 3 ohm as well.

Are the motors wired wrongly? And if so, has damage occurred?

Thankful for any replies.

Cheers.

Peter.

Since these are bipolar motors, there are two separate coils. Red/
Green is one coil and Blue/Yellow is the other. The resistance values
are right. The XYZ motors are rated 4.2V 1.5A 2.8 Ohm +/-10%. The
extruder motor is rated 2.6V 1A 2.6 Ohm +/-10%.

Try Red-Green-Blue-Yellow

On my MakerGear Mendel Prusa kit, I have all my steppers wired Red-
Green-Yellow-Blue. So, yes, you have your motors wired wrong. It's not
likely to have caused damage, because Red and Blue are not connected
together in our motors, neither are Green and Yellow.

You can see some photos of the connections on my blog at

Thanks for all your help guys, turns out the bot on IRC had the wiring
diagram for my motors, and yep, it was wrong as confirmed by you all.
Freaked out for awhile thinking I burnt all the motors, but seems fine
now. ;)

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Peter.
