I was at the MakerGear booth at the NYC Inside 3D Printing show today. Had to put my camera in 16:9 mode to get this pic. There was something that wasn't an M2 there... perhaps it's called an MΔ?

Josh identified it as a "second-stage prototype". It might have been the only worthwhile thing to see at the show for M2 owners.

It is rather lovely to look at. The print quality looked quite good, too, but it was hard to see given the crowd.

Rick and Josh had one at PAX East along with two M2s (juggling 3 printers at once!). The X1 printed nicely.

Saw it at the Cleveland Mini Maker Faire. It is sweet.

I was hoping Rick would call it the R0   ("R naught").

I can hear the kids in the back of the car trying to decide which MakerGear product to order......

"M2!"
"R0!!"
"M2!!!"
"R0!!!!!"
"QUIET!!!!"
"Mo-ommmmmmm!!!!!"

From what i've read following the rostock, the primary benefit is speed (800 mm/s transit speeds) and build volume in Z. The down side is the bowden tube setup. Having had an Ultimaker, i can tell you that retraction just isn't as good with a bowden, but maybe using 1.75mm filament might help fix some of those issues.

richrap wrote a good article on a version of the rostock in detail here. http://richrap.blogspot.com/2013/04/rostock-delta-3d-printer-build.html

1.75mm would benefit from feeding issues I would imagine as there is less pressure to feed through the hotend, however 1.75mm is less rigid and more prone to sloppy retraction I would think.

The X1 seems beefy enough that they should try getting away with a gearhead extruder ala nema 11 etc..

Hey! I saw the delta bot there yesterday, also. The MakerGear booth was always crowded, and Rick and Josh were very helpful and patient.
From what I understand, the delta bot design allows for even faster printing than typical cartesian x,y,z motions do - due to reduced backlash - and a taller build. When I bought my M2, the only other printer in contention (for me in, my budget) was the Rostock Max delta bot. Rick's delta printer  design has higher quality linear bearings than the Rostock, so accuracy and speed should be better. As far as trade shows go, this was a relatively small (but fun) affair. It will be interesting to see how things progress over the next few years. I was surprised no one was there selling consumables (and giving out samples and discounts). I left the show feeling that I had made the best [value and quality] choice by choosing to purchase the M2.

Rick I feel you are a victim of your own success.  The m2 was a game changer. The expectations for  your next unit is thru the roof. I am glad you are working on something new I hope you can once again release a machine that is not only top notch functionally but with the style that makergear is known for.
