Attached is a draft of our JCPS School of Innovation Letter of Intent.  

The text feels stuffy to me. My attempt at brevity & desire to not pin us down to specifics quite yet breeds a lot of jargon. I'd like to make it a little more interesting and memorable, but maintain professionalism.  Ideas?

I'm going back and forth between one signature and a group of signatures to the letter.  Right now I'm leaning toward many signatures with one identified as the project leader/contact.  I think it emphasizes the collaborative nature of the proposal.  If you agree and want to add your name too, please do.  I'm flexible on one signature/group signatures either way. Thoughts?

It is due Dec. 10 & I think we should email it to Jonathan by Monday at the latest.  So if you have input, please share it sometime this weekend.

I think the letter is suitable; such letters tend to be a bit dry by nature and you hit the highlights nicely.  I added my name to the bottom but it won't hurt my feelings if it's not on the final draft; I'm just some interested layman and not an education expert or anything.

I approached the (substitute for now) teacher I know and she's very excited by this idea.  I will reach out to the retired librarian shortly.

Thanks for doing the letter, Kendra! I think it looks good - concise and complete. Do we need a phone number for Chris or yourself (do people still use phones)? Oh, and my last name needs a double check. 

 

I understand your point about making the letter more memorable, but maybe we could infuse the application with innovative examples (or maybe pics or video if it's an electronic submission).  I think the letter is about building a list of people who want to take part.

Elizabeth, I'm so sorry about your name typo & Ben, I apologize that I didn't have your name on the letter at first.  I didn't catch your last name at the meeting! :)

With that amended, I sent in the letter of intent to Jonathan Lowe this morning.  Elizabeth, I love the idea of video and picture examples - maybe we can use it in the January application? 

Further food for thought:  Here are some resources that KIPP (highly successful charter school) uses to talk about and track character development.  A lot of their ideas are based on the work of the Duckworth Lab.  And here is a their "character report card."
