Young Maker Skills

I am looking for a list of "basic maker skills" like, soldering, measuring lengths, etc. I'm writing a training module for youth and young adults interested in "making" and wonder if anyone has seen such a list or could point me in the right direction.

There are maker merit badges from Adafruit that might be helpful to start.

btw Mayor Fischer is a leader of the White House Maker Faire "Mayor's Maker Challenge" pledge. I'm arranging some meetings with the city to help push elements of the pledge, so hopefully there will be more Metro support soon.

This site is terrific. I'm thinking about doing a quick survey of "makers" on which of these/similar skills are most essential or in demand in the workforce. Thoughts on whether what would be useful??

About Mayor Fischer - great news!! We've been conceptualizing a network of youth and young adult "re-engagement centers" that integrate "making" activities and training (addresses items 6 and 9 on the Mayors Challenge). I'll keep you informed on the progress!
