Hello makers,

Bringing the Cincinnati Maker Faire to life is taking a bit longer than expected. The folks at Maker were slow to respond initially and are now completely reworking their mini maker faire agreement. In addition, securing the venue and sponsorship dollars is taking a while. So the decision has been made to move the event to a Saturday in September, exact date to be determined based on when Washington Park is available.

I know we are all looking forward to Cincinnati Maker Faire and it's frustrating to have to push it back, but it is better to do it right and make it the biggest and best mini maker faire ever.

So here is the request: I need each of you to send a simple email of support for a Cincinnati Maker Faire to minimak...@oreilly.com. If you are part of an organization, please send it on behalf of your organization. If you are not part of an organization just give a brief description of what you make or sell or whatever. All you have to say is something like "I fully support the campaign to have a mini maker faire in Cincinnati." You should probably make sure the word Cincinnati is in the title of the email so they can search for it easily.

Thank you so much for helping. It won't happen if we don't show support for it.

Lastly, look for details about recurring maker faire planning meetings to come.

Thanks,

Jason

Hey all,

Sorry I have been totally out of the loop on this. In addition to being busy with things fire troupe-related (Dante's Gypsy Circus got best of Cincinnati for event entertainment, BTW), I have new digs and a new job. I do now have a shop and separate craft space at home, which rules. I am working mad hours now, but will have a ton of free time the first few weeks of the new year and hope to get caught up on this among other things (and maybe actually get back to making).

I am not really involved much with the KOIpound, but I did forward this email to some who are along with a recommendation to get involved and send in an email of support. They evidently have a good number of new members although they are less maker-centered than they once were.

Best wishes to all and thank you for your efforts on this.

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I'd heard anything, but I have some news on a potential sponsor. I'm still in the process of getting the contact info, so I'll give you the background...

As many of you know, I'm pretty excited about what this can bring for children in the area and STEM development.

I met with a group from iSpace yesterday, which, if you're not familiar, is a STEM "program" situated on the Scarlet Oaks campus at the moment. I'd signed up to volunteer and it turned into a much broader conversation regarding fundraising for their cause. They were also interested in being an active participant in the Maker Faire, but due to being a non-profit, cannot provide sponsorship.

So...in that discussion, it was offered up that Time Warner Cable is looking to sponsor something "bigger and farther reaching" than what iSpace is offering.  As soon as I can get some contact info, I can pass that along (still working on meeting all the board members at the moment). If anyone knows someone at TWC, they may actually be approachable at this point.

Hope this helps the cause.

Hi Julie,

iSpace is a great organization and they definitely have a place at Maker Faire. Regarding TW sponsorship, that would be great to get as well. Just let me know if you make contact with anyone at TW and want me to take the next step.

There has been a lot of progress in the past week toward making this faire happen. Look for an email from me in the next couple weeks with lots of details.

Thanks,

Jason
