You only see the control panel when you connect to the bot over USB.

1. If you had MakerWare installed, then start it up and disable Conveyor. (Under the
"Services" menu, I believe.)
2. Connect the Rep 2 to your laptop over USB and turn it on
3. Fire up RepG
4. Make sure that under Machine > Machine Type (Driver) you have "Replicator 2" selected.
5. Click the connect button
6. If the connect worked, now you should be able to access Machine > Control Panel.

Sorry, but I'm not getting anything more than the ReplicatorG name next to the apple in the top menu bar, no matter what I do. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, reinstalled JAVA, connected to the Replicator2, and no matter what.... I do not get ANY of the toolbar options so that I can choose machine or follow any of the instructions on the ReplicatorG site.

What I had done before was work with .stl files and create printable files to save on SD card, then move that to my Bot. That's what I'm trying to do, but I can't get Replicator G to display any files, show any preferences, etc.

There's a couple of ways that can happen

1. A Java problem on your system. Since this is a Mac, you may need to ensure
that you have an up-to-date Java installed.

2. If you were previously using RepG and the problem was with the last model
you were working with, then any new install of RepG is going to know what
model you last were working with and try to open it. Thus, if that model
is still around, you can find your newly installed RepG trying to process it
and dying (assuming the old RepG died on it as well). Rename the gcode file
for that model so RepG cannot find it and open it.

I uninstalled Java and downloaded most current version and installed. No effect.

No problems on last model BUT I took everything OFF my computer and am trying to open a different .stl file. I have deleted everything I can find from the previous RepG install, and then downloaded version 40. The instructions make it seem like you don't need to do anything else (no directory to set up, etc), just click on the app icon and it should load. Then follow the instructions to set machine, etc. If you look at the RepG instructions, I don't get that window or any of the toolbar options to select.

If there are old RepG files on my computer still, I have no idea where to look anymore. Thanks for your suggestions! Still hoping to get this to work again.

Well, the problem is that RepG puts some information into the Windows Registry
and puts other information into your Documents and Settings folder (or wherever
your flavor of Windows puts the Unix equivalent of the home directory). All of
this information persists after you remove RepG. It also persists after you
upgrade RepG.

The most likely offender is some information in the Windows Registry: that's
where applications on Windows typically store the user preferences, information
about last opened files, the window state of the application when it was last
run, etc.

Dan,

I'm still looking for rogue files. I'm on a Mac, so I've looked in the Library, Application support and in the Library, Preferences. Nothing with Replicator name left there.

Sigh.

Any Mac users able to help me?

Thanks,
Karyn

When things get this mysterious, I sometimes resort to tracing system calls to see what files might be accessed by the program.  I don't have a Mac, but in my quick look, it looks like maybe be possible to run truss to see what files are opened.  Perhaps that might help?  Perhaps someone more familiar with Macs can recommend a more user-friendly application to accomplish the same thing...

I am a mac user. The directory loaded with stuff is

~/.replicatorg/

and the preferences are in the file

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.java.util.prefs.plist

However, the preferences for you other Java-based applications are also in that .plist
file.

OK, now I've really messed it up!

I couldn't find any directory with "replicator" in it.

Somehow, I am now unable to delete the ReplicatorG.app (error: The operation can't be complted because the item "replicatororg.icns" is in use.

And I NOW can't open the app either. I get the error message: You can't open the application ReplicatorG.app because it may be damaged or incomplete.

The directory name is .replicator with a leading dot. And OS X will
go out of it's way to hide it from you. You have to flip the switch
in the finder preferences to show hidden directories or use COMMAND-SHIFT-.
to display hidden files. That's pressing the command key, the shift key,
and the period key at the same time.

Log out and back in.

Log out and back in.

Logged out, logged in.

Found a few .replicator files in the "Saved Application State" folder in the Library. Deleted those. Then I was able to delete the Replicator G app.

Logged out. Logged in. Used a different browser to download (again) RepG. Installed fresh version.

Launched app. Still the same. No window opens to view files and no toolbar to configure for machine, etc.

Deleted the app again. Deleted any files I could find (including hidden files) w any kind of Replicator name

This is getting really ridiculous (but also I can't drag myself away now).

Have you installed the app to /Applications/ ? That is, made it an app available
to all users? If so, then you can try

1. Create a new user account
2. Log in to that new user account
3. Launch ReplicatorG

If it does the mysterious hanging, then it's an issue between RepG and the
environment presented by your operating system in its current state. (I'm
a mac user; works fine for me.) If it does not hang, then it's something to
do with past usage from your account (e.g., trying to open and display
a model which is giving it grief). Also, when you launch RepG it tries to
make a network connection to firmware.makerbot.com in order to download
firmware. It shouldn't hang when it does that, but I thought I'd mention it.

It's also possible that something is appearing in the console log about a
problem. That's the console app in the utilities folder of the applications
folder. You can select "all messages" on the left and then fire up RepG and
see if anything tell tale is logged.

Dan

P.S. Or you can make a new account and just install RepG for that account and
try it.

OK, I created a new user "Maker" and used Safari to re-download the RepG app within that user login.

Launched RepG and IT WORKED.

So... now I need to figure out what to do on my other login to fix the issue there.

Thanks the suggestion. I had tried it with my other user profile on the computer, but hadn't tried creating a new user profile.

My best guess is a problem with trying to open the last opened file.
Other than

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.java.util.prefs.plist

and

~/Library/Preferences/org.replicatorg.app.plist

I have no idea where ReplicatorG might be saving that info. The stuff in

~/.replicatorg/

is downloaded firmware, customized SF profiles, and customized machine definitions.
So the likely culprits are the files in ~/Library/Preferences but you indicated
that you had deleted those.

Thanks so much everyone (especially Dan) for all the encouragement and suggestions.

Printing happily from RepG now (from the new user I set up). Will fuss with other stuff later... it's more fun to be designing and printing!
