Hi, All,
I've been building on the surge in local interest and have started a
Google Group for Makerbot and RepRap builders/operators in Central
Ohio:
http://groups.google.com/group/central-ohio-reprap-and-makerbot-operators
In addition, I've organized a very suitable space for interested
people to gather and share ideas and tips. Our first meeting is this
Wednesday evening, 16 December, from 19:00 to 23:00 (some confirmed
arrivals can't make it early in the evening due to work). The space
is The Columbus Idea Foundry, a community workshop and creative space
-
http://www.columbusideafoundry.com/ - situated between downtown
Columbus and the airport.
If you plan to attend, please drop me a line - the Idea Foundry can be
difficult to find since it is located in a crowded complex of
industrial buildings and is not visible from any road. We should have
Makerbot #330 there (complete except for the heater barrel assembly)
and quite probably other machines in various states of completion.
There isn't a fixed agenda, but I'm expecting lots of introductions
and splitting off into smaller, focused discussion groups as well as
some show-and-tell on hardware and software. One thing that will
definitely be discussed is the timing and frequency of future
meetings.
I know my own McWire build group is heavily slanted towards the
mechanical and electrical aspects of construction, so if you have
experience with the design-end of 3D printing, please bring laptops or
at least design files for OpenSCAD, Blender, or whatever you are using
- we definitely need the creative community represented. I myself
have been using UNIX for many, many years, so meetings will definitely
be UNIX, Linux, and OS X friendly.
If you are nearby, please join the Google Group; and I hope to see you
at the meeting this Wednesday, or if not, at a future meeting.
