We have the ToM build completed! However it does not recognize the extruder controller. This is using the Gen4 electronics. I get the error:
Toolhead 0: Not found.
Make sure the toolhead is connected, the power supply is plugged in and turned on, and the power switch on the motherboard is on.

We followed all instructions carefully. I updated all the latest firmware on Mobo and EC. I am using RepG 22. I wiped all RepG configs I had previously in ~/.replicatorg so this is a totally stock setup. The EC board has a blinking red LED DEBUG light. It blinks every 0.8 seconds or so.

All connections are good. I tried two different computers and two different ethernet patch cables (the one that came with the ToM and an old one from a Cupcake). No dice.

Am I looking at a shot board?

Here's the kicker -- driving some things off the EC works even though the Mobo doesn't recognize it. The ABP motor can turn and the MK5 motor can turn. But all temp value entries and readings read 0.0.

What can I do to verify that I have a good gen4 EC board?

In RepG there's an option to set the toolhead number. Maybe give that a try to explicitly assign it Toolhead 0.

Knowing shipping this time of year, my electronics will probably be cued up for a week at the Canada-US border waiting for their turn.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks! ya forgot to mention I tried that, still not working. Tried restarting the computer(s) too.

Is Anyway to figure out why the debug light is blinking?

There's a mention of one case that leads to these toolhead not found
messages just before Step 3 here:

http://wiki.makerbot.com/thingomatic-doc:testing-your-bot

--snip--
If the console window reports that the motherboard can not connect to the
toolhead, make sure your patch cable is connected between the motherboard
and extruder controller, that the extruder controller is plugged into the
power supply, and that the power on the Thing-O-Matic is switched on.
--end-snip--

Perhaps there's a problem with the patch cable or ethernet-style jack
you're plugged into. Or the motherboard could be powered only via the USB
cable and the main PSU-based power be off for some reason. Does pushing
the MB reset button do anything?

Andrew.

thanks for your help. Yeah I tried everything I can think of. I tried two different patch cables. I made sure the EC has its own power connector from the ATX supply. The MB reset button doesn't even blink the power LED, so I'm not sure what that is supposed to do. The EC reset button does two bright flashes, but still then settles back to its one minor blink every 0.8 sec.

I think it must be the EC itself. With *everything* disconnected and the EC plugged directly into the USB port the debug LED still blinks.

It is receiving enough current to drive motors, but it cannot be recognized by the MB.

soooooo strange.

Update: The board has been diagnosed as dead by MBI. I am shipping back to them and they are sending me a replacement EC board today.
