Every time I insert a SD card the LCD display shuts off, including backlight. Everything is fine without an SD card inserted, so I cant print from a SD card.

When I hover the menu to print from SD and insert an SD card, display will shut off and when i press the M button it ill beep the "no sd card error". When I remove the SD card, LCD comes back to life.

I have checked the ribbon cable connection from the display module and on the mainboard and everything seems connected firmly. Is there any other areas that i need to troubleshoot?

I believe I read that a piece of filament can fall down into the SD card slot... and then when you put in a card it bends the contacts and shorts out the works (causing this and other problems).

I'd make sure the card slot is clean and clear of contamination.  And inspect the card contacts if possible.

More information: 3v3 pin and CD pin of the SD card connector is shorted but cant figure out where the short is. 3V3 pin and casing of the SD card connector is shorted also.

When SD card is inserted 3V3 volts CD and GND pin between 3V3 and CD is shorted and i think this is why the LCD is shutoff

Simple, plastic debris from the build surface got into the slot since it faces up. You jammed an SD card in and it bend the fingers for the SD card contacts thus ruining the SD card slot.

Not entirely your fault, it's a bad design we've called out to MakerBot many times.

I have the same problem with my Replicator 2 3D printer. Every time I insert the SD card, the backlight of the LCD screen turns off. I checked the board, but I cannot see any problems with the connectors on the sd card slot. When I monitored the 5v input into the front board, I noticed that the voltage drops to 2.5v when the SD card is inserted, showing that there is some type of short. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
