I'm new to using Makerbots (we have one at the job I just started) but fairly experienced with printing on the Afinia UP! machine.

Our Makerbot2x frequently has one extruder broken, but the other one seems to work fine.
Is there a way to print using only one extruder? I want all of the work to be done with the extruder that works.
If so, could someone help me figure out how to choose that option in the settings?
Or maybe that adjustment happens at a different stage?

Thanks in advance.

If all the items on the build plate are assigned to the same extruder in Makerware, it should only use one extruder.

What are you doing that is making it use both extruders?

you can just remove one sepper and use long bolts and nuts to secure heat sink and fan to the bar. it won't error on a single print because just the steppers unplugged

If you're using makerware it's a case of clicking on "Object" and selecting the extruder you want to use. If you're using rafts or supports ensure you select "Colour matched" in the Make menu so it only uses the same extruder. That should do it.

I routinely print with only one extruder. It's defaulted to the right extruder in makerware. In fact, I pull the unused hotend up slightly to prevent dragging or catching.

I wouldn't recommend removing a stepper on a Replicator 1, the X-axis endstop uses the right extruder stepper to close against. Removing it and homing ends up in a bad place (unhappy clicking). Not sure if the 2X is different, but something to look out for.
