I'm having a slight calibration issue with my extruder. Whenever I
start building a raft, it starts the go down the axis, but doesn't lay
any plastic down until 1/2 way down the line. Is it possible to adjust
this timing in Skeinforge?

Also when I tell it to stop extruding i.e. when it's moving across a
layer to a different spot, it keeps extruding for a small time. Is
there any way to stop this?

Check out oozebane. Later versions of skeinforge also have an option
named something like "splodge" that starts extrusion before the raft.
May be useful.

I think Jordan Miller and Zaggo I think have routines they use to have the extrusion start early so the raft will be complete. That might be in the email archive here somewhere...

I usually just add a few lines to the start, Make sure you get ride of
the M101 after this bit.

G1 X-40 Y-20 F1200
G1 X-40 Y-20 Z.48 F300 (set Z to whatever your first Z depth of the
raft is)
M101
G1 X-40 Y0 Z.48 F600
G1 X0 Y0 Z.48 F900

What does that do?

It goes to the right of the platform and centered on the y at whatever height it's at(x-40,y0)
Then it moves down to just above the platform, use the same z as your first raft layer, if you have one.
Then it starts the extruded.
Then it moves to the center (0,0) at about half the speed of normal allowing enough time to get going,

I usually do a test extrusion in the air manually before running my program and I don't have the test extrusion code in my program either.  Since pla is rather drippy and I'm not using a raft I find this is enough to have good extrusion by the time it starts.

Oh I guess that iteration starts 20 up on y too, just to give one more little bit of movement.
