From one of the many CES stories:

"Other advantages cited by MakerBot include being able to combine both ABS and PLA plastics together in "a single object that is both flexible and rigid",...

I thought the two wouldn't stick together?

You could probably design parts that are interlocking such that they aren't actually laminated together the way normal layers of plastic are, but are still effectively one pre-assembled part when they are done being printed.

in my experience it depends a bit on which pla and abs you're using.
but they do stick.

Does it depend on the supplier? Or the color?

no idea..

the test print I did was with makerbot translucent blue pla and with makerbot black. I did the two color globe, with the land area with the black abs, so there was quite a bit of interlocking. i did some calibration prints of adjacent cubes too with the same stuff, they sticked together but were separable(with force). with the globe model it's impossible to get them to separate.

also, by using the pla as the base material on the globe, the abs didn't warp at all.
