Getting a Makerbot (or any 3D Printer) into Thailand through customs (not so easy).

Recently I ordered the 5th Generation Makerbot replicator and had it delivered in Thailand. Makerbot use FedEx for delivery and customs are fairly thorough on getting taxes paid - especially via FedEx.

In order to get through Thai customs - you need to explain to them what a 3D Printer is and how it works. This isn't easy to do - because it needs to be in Thai.

Here is what I sent - it may help those in Thailand. It worked for me and freed the item up from Customs.

3. ระบบจะส่งคำสั่งไปยังเครื่องพิมพ์โดยละลายพลาสติกและพิมพ์โดยขึ้นรูปทีละชั้นบางๆขั้นตอนจะเหมือนกับการพิมพ์ของเครื่องพิมพ์ทั่วๆไป

I attempted to order a 5th Gen MakerBot Replicator on the MakerBot site last night.  Getting all the way through to the confirm order button, I was presented with a message that regulation prevent sales to Thailand (or words to that effect).  Did you have to deal with the same issue and how did you get around it?  Did you get the same machine or the Z18?  Are you getting your consumables locally or from the US?
