Hey Folks - sorry in advance if I end up sounding like a Newbie with the following questions - but, once I had my Bot running last Sept. - I just moved forwards with printing things - and never really paid attention to things like Infill and Wall Thickness.

But, I'm strill trying to finish this big project of mine - as my Dragon is approaching 4 feet in length - especially once the head is designed & printed. However, since I am semi low on plastic - I want to be careful how much plastic I use for creating the head. I was originally going to make it Hollow - to save on plastic usage. Then I thuoght about this Infill and Wall thickness - and maybe that would be the trick. Honestly though - and I just looked around in RepG - but, could not find where I can set those parameters.

I am using RepG 0024 (yeah - I know - its Old) - set to Standard Skeinforge. I have an original CupCake purchase last year in like April - with NO Mod's done to it!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Kurt

Actually - I found it when I went to Generate the GCode - as opposed to under GCode in the top menu.

Mine is already set to 0.23 Infill - like I saw in the other example. But, can one set it to much lower? And, how low is Too low? A value of 0.23 already Does seem a bit low - but, I guess the number is relative!

Matters on how nice you want your upper surfaces. I think you could go to .1

I turned it down to 0.1 - and it worked wonders - nice big holes on the inside & saving me plastic! Let's see how it finally works on the Dragon head - which I hope to show off at the Faire!

For some reason, I am totally emotionally invested in this. just by reading this thread.  I don't know if it is just because you represent issues we all have had, or if you are doing it on a cupcake, or what.

I really want it to succeeed and cant wait to see it!

Hey Perry,

Thank you SO Much for your feedback - and for being excited about this project. I'm curious to know if its possible that this may be the BIGgest print job on a CupCake to Date - maybe even worthy of Guiness! ITs would be nice to shoot for that.

The Body has been painted. And, I would love to show you all what it looks like so far - but, its MAJOR Crunch time now - just trying to make it all happen.

Downside - there just isn't enough time to put legs and feet on this sucker. But, of course, there are styles and images of Chinese Dragons on the web which do NOT have feet. Actually - as "research" for this project - I did a search on the web for Chinese Dragons - and the attached pic is one that I found - which has No Legs!

And - attached is my Dragon head I designed in Sculptris - which is a Free and AMAZING 3D program that EVERYONE should try out. Its GREAT for making organic stuff - and even just playing. Finally - I made something cool with it that I could print. But, its BIG and I am printing it in pieces to be re-assembled!

So - yeah - the Upside -no legs - but, I am finally getting the Head done!

Deadline is FAST Approaching - so - its back to work for me - and go crash soon...

Well - I continue to print out pieces. But, it still looks like I may not be able to print all the pieces on time.

Then - last night I realized something. Its a Maker Faire - and what better way to exhibit at the Faire then to sit there and continue to MAKE Something. As such - during the Faire - I will be doing a LOT of the final assembly of the Dragon - including final assembly of the Head, printing the dragon Teeth, and maybe printing Horns for the head, applying triangular Spikes on back of dragon - and more. I may even attempt to have my exhibit assistant work with me on creating and generating the Legs of the Dragon (although my buddy has No Experience w/Bots - he has a TON of experience w/3DS Max and modeling!).

So - its should be an exciting day at the Faire!
