Hi

I've accidently broken the part that holds the build plate on my replicator 2. The build plate itself was stuck in the back clamp so I forced it out of there to be able to removed it and clean it. Now the tension in that back clamp is entirely gone.

Can this part be replaced somehow?

Best regards

- Björn

Is that part metal or plastic? If it is plastic, perhaps you can print yourself a replacement after drawing it in Tinkercad. If you cannot print it, I could do it for you for free if it is a small part, just pay shipping. If it is metal, you may have to CAD it and have Shapeways print it up. Be sure to post your part on Thingiverse or Youmagine or 3dPrintFileMarket.com so that others with the same problem could be helped.

Good luck ;0)

contact MBI for the part first, though.

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd rather don't mess with trying to replicate it thought. It's rather large and has some complex features.

I've contacted MBI aswell, I'll see what they have to say.

Just wanted to see if someone else had the same problem.

Replacing the build plate holder is easy. You screw the three levelling nuts
off the levelling screws and then you can lift the build plate holder from the
Z-stage.

I upgraded my R2 with a heated build plate and have this part as a spare.
If Makerbot tries to charge a fortune for the build plate holder I would offer
you my used part for some Euros plus DHL shipment inside Europe.

You may have to call them on the phone. (Yes, if you're not located in the Americas,
that might be problematic.) Generally, it is support you want to speak with. And
I know at least one person who bought one of the spanning plates for the Z platform
from MBI. (And I ended up sending him my old spanning plate and that platform
retaining plate which you had fail. He sent me the spanning plate he bought with
some interesting modifications, so we were essentially swapping parts.)

Interesting, thanks for both of your generous suggestions.

I'll hang on and see what they say at MBI.

I've opened a support ticket at the website. Why do I have to call them you reckon?

As far as we can tell, they dreadfully under-staff the email support so it takes forever to get an answer, if you get one at all. But phone support is very helpful.

Because, as many people have found, they are very slow to answer support tickets
filed online. They are very, very busy with Gen 5 support phone calls. Online
support tickets appear to be lower priority. And, owing to the nature of your
issue, possibly low priority amongst the support tickets.

perhaps i speak out of turn, but there Scott D replaced his with a bottleworks heated build plate, perhaps contact him and see if he is willing to sell his replicator 2 plate to you.... I was watching his bottleworks heated build plate install video, and noticed he held up a replicator 2 build plate, that it appeared as though he was not using... but it figure it would not hurt to ask, or perhaps anyone who recently replaced their standard build plate... :)

cheers. :)

Thanks Walter. I see you found the video.
Not a bad idea, I've been meaning to out a lot of things like a new 2X stock HBP, new 2X bar full setup, and R2 PSU up for sale and didn't think about the stock R2 build plate assembly. I'd say if you in the US feel free to reach out, it's just collecting dust anyway.

But if your nit in the US I dint know if the wait and cost of shipping would be worth it. But if Makerbot gives you a price and shipping cost is still cheaper then it still might be worth it to you. Just send me a private message if you want to figure it out.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I'll let you know what they say. Also, I've reached out to my local Swedish reseller, perhaps they have an answer aswell.

Snap! excuse the pun....

Mine broke months ago - i've just wedged a spare Bic pen top in there (slightly cut down) - works a treat!

I should get it fixed properly so will be interested to hear back from MB, but may design a wedge type hinge to go in there - but don't want to push against that back plate too much, might cause a z axis binding?
