Hi! A few days ago my replicator 2X's build plate started to fail randombly. It doesn't heat when I try to print something and it desn't heat up when I execute the preheat rutine either. It happened a few times and then it started heating again and now it stopped (again) :S

Is there any kind of check I can do to rule out some problems?

Thank you!

Check the wiring connected to the build plate, i had a similar issue with one of the extruders on my 2x and it was fixed by pushing the cables in a bit tighter. Given its temperamental nature, it seems you might be suffering from a similar fault!

Have you checked if the HBP is actually getting hot but the thermistor is not measuring temperature properly?

Flip the bot on its side and take off the plate covering the Mightboard. Check for burning, scorching, etc on the plug on the HBP wiring.

I don't thing my supply wire made it. Check it out, is that enough to stop working?

Yea, not good. Either the wire got to hot from a short causing the shield to burn off. Or maybe you had a surge, any big electrical storms lately? Either way you look at it something shorted and I'm surprised your are only having issues with your HBP and nothing else.
Is that signs of arcing to your ground post for the board?
I cant tell from the picture. I'm even more surprised if it did arc that no fuses popped.

If you have no signs or arcing or shorting then my guess is your thermistor was not working in the heat bed and your bed was getting way to hot and not turning off causing it to draw to much constant power and heating up the wire to melt down.

How old is the machine? I would contact MBI, they need to know that your machine almost caught on fire and no safety had triggered to prevent this. They may replace the HBP and even he board to be on the safe side. When you call them just be nice, but still concerned and surprised. They don't respond to people giving attitude well.
I know if I saw that and almost had a fire in my house I would be concerned.

Well, I may have reolved the problem (temporarily at least). The wire had kind of "split" in the tip and was lodged in the terminal block. It was all black and covered in burnt plastic (or it seemed it was that). I took off the point and the burnt stuff, cleaned the wire and re attached it. I contacted makerbot a few days ago and I'm still waiting for a response (it's easier for me since I'm quite far away and I can write better in English than I can speak).

THANK YOU ALL!

Did you get a good look at the contact surfaces on the screw down terminal?
You need to ensure that it is clean and free of dirt, soot, etc. Otherwise,
the wiring may have reduced contact area. That will cause things to
heat up more than they should in the terminal. That in turn causes corrosion
and other issues which then further reduces the contact area. Thus more
heating. It's a bad cycle that gets worse and worse until things burn
up again.

Hi Ellasaro,

I checked in and saw that Andre reached out to you about this, so you should be up and running again soon.  Thanks for working with support on this - we appreciate it.
