Hi, I just read about Project Shellter--what an excellent, excellent
concept! I work in a pet store and have owned several hermit crabs for
around 4 years. The painted shells most often offered in the pet
retail business are lousy and unfit for healthy crabs, and even the
natural shells deplete a natural resource that should stay on our
beaches!

I read on your Facebook page that hermit crab owners could help test
shellter prototypes; I have 2 of the most commonly kept species
(different species prefer differently shaped shells, you know!), and
different sizes of the most common species, "Purple
Pinchers" (including some quite large guys, which might be easier for
making prototypes??). If this project is still on-going, and I can be
of any help at all, whether it be answering questions about shell
preferences or behavior OR anything else to actually offering shells
to the crabs & documenting their receptivity, please feel free to
contact me! I would love to help.

Hi Jeni,

Sorry, just saw this.

What size shell (opening length/width, overall length/width) does your
crab have now? How much larger do you need the shell?

Go!
