Hi;

I want to use abs filament on makerbot replicator 2. Just because finishing parts that are using ABS material is more finer than PLA. There is no issue when i print the small part using ABS filament. But  when I printing the big size, I noticed that the support plate doesn't able to stick on the plate especially at the corner. Any one try before using ABS filament on makerbot replicator 2. Pls advise. Thank.

Common problem.  Does the curl appear most pronounced on the most exposed corner(s)?  I think it comes from too great a temperature gradient.  I fixed through:

Enclosed my bot with clear polycarbonate (lexan) windows
Print on blue painters tape
Smooshed first layer slightly

+1 on the above...but mainly the R2 doesn't have a heated build tray. You can get some small prints but the bigger ones just slip...right?

You can get a piece of glass cut at local hardware supply warehouse or glass company....should only be a couple of dollars or euros each. You'll have to do the 'binder clip' and lower your build platform and re-level it. If you take the glass and apply hairspray (do a search on here)...oh...and don't do it while plate is mounted in machine. The hair spray acts as glue. I've also heard of people using the glass with plain old white school glue, glue sticks (the ones that look like big chapstick rolls), and even using Acetone to melt some ABS filament into a liquid then painting it on.

I'd also figure on using helper disks at the corners to help provide more surface tension...uh...you're using a raft right? If not...try that...the raft helps hold the part down. ABS can be twitchy even on a machine optimized for it.

Or...you could order Bottleworks Heated Build Platform for the R2....gives you the best of both worlds...(still would enclose the bot)...

Yeah I forgot to mention my bot is not an R2 - I use a cupcake cnc with heated build platform.  And I preheat my first print of the day for at least 10 minutes to make sure the enclosed volume gets up to temp - kind of like preheating your oven ...

Hi Jay;

Thank for advise. I will try out. Is there any machine parameter I can play in order to stick more?
