Today the new Makerbot replicator arrived at my place

After a very nice unboxing experience I had some issues with the first start up of this 3D printer.
I'd like to give MB some critical feedback in the hope they can fix this for new customers.

- First of all it takes quite some time for the machine to start up, somewhere in between 2 or 3 minutes.
Other 3D printers start up on demand, though i can imagine that it takes a bit more time to start up a full color screen.

- At the end of the start up sequence the samples files didn't had any information and were also not responding to my 'print' request.
And i could not really find a good way to continue and what to do right now.
Luckily the sheet that comes with the Makerbot mentioned to download the user manual the more depth information.
After reading half the manual, 30 minutes, I found what i could do.

. In the Makerbot software I loaded a 3D model and after hitting "print" in the software the program started exporting the model ?, confusion..

- Later I saved the print file on a USB stick that fitted the usb port on the MB but her it comes
I instantly got a Blue sceen on the display, after 20 seconds still no reaction and I started to press the buttons and rotation wheel, still no reaction.
I Unplugged the usb and still had zero response of the machine, reminds me of microsoft's blue screen of death, hooray.
Not a good experience to gives your customer the first hour.... I decided to Switch the powerplug to hope the whole thing would work, luckily now it did.

- I didn't move the printer but before I wanted to do the third print I had to level the bed again because the nozzle was to far away from the bed to lay down the material...

First prints looked alright, cool thing is to see the nozzle hopping up and down, good for the travel speed I guess.
Great features on the new machine, such as preview of your sliced 3D model +meta info, camera and use of a USB stick is set by MB as a standard that every printer should have.

Overal print experience was alright, it took me an hour to get a print out of this machine, and i felt kind of on myself to get some things working, though you can always contact support to get your problem solved of course. Now I have done 4 prints and some things are beginning to get more clear.

Did you update the firmware? You have to update the firmware.

FYI - if U think your feedback will go directly back to MBI - and they may do something with your suggestion - you may be Sorely mistaken. Generally speaking - you will NEVER - or ALMOST Never see any direct responses from MBI here...

:-(

Just sayin' & others know its true...
