I'm looking to do some experimentation with pen-style plotting on a
makerbot using Will's plotter attachment:

I was wondering if anyone has had experience coverting 2d DXF files
(or any 2d vector file, eps, ps, inkscape, illustrator) directly into
G-code? I haven't had enough experience with skeinforge to know if
it's possible with the scriptset, and I thought that this might
introduce unnecessary complexity anyway. As one additional speed bump,
I'm running OSX leopard, so it would be great if people knew of a mac-
flavored piece of software out there (even better if it's open source,
for future hacking awesomeness)

Some friends and I made a drawbot a few years ago. It worked pretty well and ran on a mac. To be honest, I have no idea where I've hidden the software that was hacked up for it. If you want it though, I'll dig around.

Here's an open source solution:

http://code.google.com/p/dxf2gcode/

It's written in Python, and doesn't seem to run under OS X. If I have
the time, I'll take a look and see why it's only Windows and Linux.

It would be great to get this working with a drag knife then we'd have
a stencil cutter!

Go!

Perfect!! Thanks so much everyone. I'll keep you all posted as to the
progress of the project. Let's just say I won't be drawing with
ink ...
