So far Google has failed me. Apparently PVA isn't the salvation we were all hoping for. Stratisys and others use a plastic that disolves in a lye solution. Does anyone have any idea what that might be?

Hey.

I found this.. Looks like PLA dissolves in lye, scary sounding stuff though... But it sure would be nice to make dissolving support(s)

If you're going to the depth of mixing your own chemical solutions, this site has sort of a "recipe" for a PLA dissolving solution, and someone with access to these sorts of ingredients may be able to reproduce it (it doesn't appear they sell it any longer):

Do not get lye in your eyes! That is nasty, and requires immediate medical attention.

I haven't used lye (NaOH) to dissolve Pla but I work it extensively at work. As dangerous chemicals go its not too dangerous. For safety ware gloves, eye protection, ventilate and work slowly with small volumes.

Flesh readily dissolves in lye as do eyeballs, be very, very careful!

Yes, okay, clearly I should throw out any plans of lye shots between prints.

Seriously, folks.

Yes, lye is caustic. That's why Mojo uses it. But I don't know what their plastic is that dissolves in lye. The PLA solution seems interesting but way too ugly. This lye solution, dispute everyone's worry, isn't really that bad. It's watered down but still clears out their support. So no one here has any idea what it might be either?
