I want to build an acetone vapour box. What can I use to seal the sides? Seems acetone will melt silicone

What are you making it out of? I would suggest metal duct tape, not
the grey plastic kind, on the outside joints. You could probably use
foam weatherstripping or just make a friction fit for you cover or
door. A small glass container to hold the acetone at the bottom with
a platform placed in it with legs or over it. Have you thought of
using one of those rubber reptile heating pads for your heat source.
They should get warm enough to evaporate acetone without risking
exposure to a spark. You could place it under the glass dish.

I have never made one of these, but just throwing out some
brainstorming ideas.

I saw some guys on Kickstarter invented a device that spins the part
in a bath of acetone for a timed amount of time. It has a hinge that
turns the holder/spinner over the solution and then turns it for an
amount of time and then appears to retract it.

It's not acetone as far as I'm aware...

Kobus,

Rather than make one, maybe buying one would be easier -- Whosawhatsis (who works at Deezmaker) showed me his solution - a large glass jar.  Something similar to http://www.target.com/p/anchor-hocking-glass-jar-set-of-2-1-2-gallon/-/A-12705098?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C12705098&CPNG=Kitchen&kpid=12705098&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=12705098

If 2.5 gallons of acetone vapor capacity ain't big enough, I'm a little afraid to know what you're working on. :)

I personally would avoid building a container.  What I did for larger objects - I was to "vapour" a full size Owl in it... was use one of those massive metal coffee cans!   Just don't let it run dry.. as it burned off the coating on the can (which STINKS!)

A large glass jar is probably the best bet.  As it's super cool watching the process (You can see the vapour slowly rising in the container and "coating" the object)

I used a an epoxy stuff called SteelStick to build the platform to lowering my stuff into the jar when I did this myself.

When I do this again I'm only going to use 1 arm on the thing since the purpose is only to lift things out. (At the time I thought the platform would be hanging from those arms but I changed the design so that wasn't necessary.)

I am not sure but the plate should be hot enough to make the acetone to give away some vapor.
Sure you need to remove some plastic so it would be attacked by the vapor, but you have the hot plate and a glass jar to have your prints in.
