stepper driver won't reverse.

I've completed the mechanical build and I'm doing the calibration
testing now. My Z axis driver turns the stepper motor in the same
direction regardless of which button I push (z+, z-) Reversing the
motor connection reverse the direction the motor turns but inverting
it in the preferences does not.

I've swapped the driver with the one of the others and the problem
definitely follows the driver board. I'm assuming this is a faulty
driver board unless someone has a suggestion for further testing or
configuration.

Thanks much.

i would return to MakerBot for a replacement. You will probably have to buy a new one (i think they're out of stock now though?) and wait a long time for customer service to get a refund back to you.

while you wait you may be able to drive with the pololu boards which are more widely/readily available. see:

Pin 4 of the IDC connector on the stepper controller sets the
direction. You probably have a loose connection somewhere.

See: http://reprap.org/wiki/Stepper_Motor_Driver_2.3#IDC_Connector

There's also instructions there on how to test the board with a
Sanguino, and a plain arduino would probably work as well.

Good luck!

Rob,
Well done. I tested pin by pin and found pin 4 in the IDC cable
connector not making contact. I pried off the cap and found the
connector broken off.
