I see that Thingiverse has been updated. My only comment thus far is
that I don't see a way to view the latests things, yet. But there is
now an API defined (well, better than the previous setup as far as I
know). So things will be getting interesting soonish. I look forward
to the app where I can just click a Thing and have it slice and print
without further intervention. I may even try to write that one day... :)

It's there, got to explore and there is a light grey menu below it. there is newest, popular, recently made, etc....

If you scroll to the bottom of the homepage you'll find a section called Explore.  There is a sub-section called Newest.  Is this what you're looking for?  http://www.thingiverse.com/newest should also return the latest items.

I do not like the new look at all.  I feel lost in it.

I don't mind it so much. Some change is good but I don't like the idea of a pop up download window. It add several steps getting to the files.

I have to agree with you guys, I'm not feeling it either. it just seems... inhospitable. Sort of like the last revision of youtube. God, I hated that.

I had a hard time finding comments on things I've made, they layout is a bit confusing, and the Thingiverse name at the top of the page is quite small now, almost as if they're trying to phase out that identity, or draw less attention to it. It seems weird, almost sterile (as if the site didn't look sterile before) maybe sanitized would be a better descriptor.

Maybe I should join the Thingiverse group so I can give some feedback

I don't like the files pop up either. But, it's not unusable.

I DO like the picture changes though. Clicking a picture no longer
requires a new page load - I can change the pictures as the details
discuss different images, without having to move away from the details.

Took me a bit to find comments - scroll down way down. The particular
models I looked at don't seem to have any comments though.

The change to how featured items on the main page are handled is just bad...featured now takes up too much screen real estate while not displaying items in the largest size.  It's almost as if they redesigned the site to be better viewed on lower resolution devices....tablets/etc rather than desktop.  In any case, I don't appreciate having that it is harder to scroll more and make more mouse clicks.  Impact -- I'll probably just bookmark the new items page and no longer go to the main page.

The item page...imho...is just horrible.

Overall, I think the site changes are a major step backwards.  If they wanted to have a better experience for mobile devices, perhaps they should have just created a mobile version of the site or other apps for android/iphone/etc..

There was an App I had for my android phone called Thingibrowse, it no longer works since the site update. Prior to that, it was perfect for browsing Thingiverse. Here's hoping that Mario updates it soon.

Their web based open scad is nice it but it shouldn't post new things.
Customized STL files shouldn't be visible to the general public by
default.

Agreed... now looking at "newest things" is a huge waste of time, purging though 100's of "iphone case" variants... what a pain. Oh well...

Omg. This is the worse redesign ever. Browsing newest things is a joke. The download page... What are they thinking?

They made it look leading edge but it's no where near as usable.

The image browsing on a thing is better and showing other objects at the bottom by the same person is neat.

I could get use to everything and I do like the picture browsing now. It's very commercial looking. I'm thinking the reason for the download window redesign is that maybe in the future there will be a purchasing solution. Sell designs, product, etc.

However I wish the download page was more like github. I would love to zip and DL a directory and have repository style cms.

I would like to see a "newest" things page that consists of items not made by the customizer app. I hate going to pages of stuff just to see what is really new and I might want to print.

Would a simple update be adding a category for all customizer new things? Then everything else goes under new things?

On the customizer flood.

If MBI was wanting to be able to advertise Thingiverse: Now with 100,000 things!
Then Good Job, I say.

Just be sure to add the disclaimer: **90,000 iphone cases.

When everything was put in a download menu this is what I expected to see. For some reason it just made sense yet for some reason it wasn't there.

It's buggy in my corporate required IE.  Only the first image shows.  When I scroll, the same things come up, in every category.

Just bear with it. Every once in a while Thingiverse gets flooded with some crap from some new tool. A while back it was tinkercad crap. A bit before that it was crappy iPhone accessories and other contest entries. Once in a while some zealous designer with too much time on their hands makes everyone cry out for a feature so they could block this one person. It's better just to wait it out, it won't be a week and we'll be back to normal.

Just don't use the RSS feature. That's a huge mistake.

They just shouldn't post anything on the front menu that doesn't include several photo's of the finished item printed - to me that is the issue - if the creator can't be bothered to print it and upload a photo I for one don't want to beta test their design, so why say its a real "thing" its just spam and clutter.

So if I'm not supposed to browse the 'new items' anymore, I should be able to use the categories, right?

So would somebody from MakerBot please explain to me why the item "4 heads" (thing:30852), which has no likes, none made, no remixes, and never collected; appears in the categories: 3D Printer Accessories, 3D Printer Extruders, 3D Printer parts, and 3D Printing Tests?

If you can't get the categories cleaned up and useful, they are less than worthless.

I think that was the whole idea behind collections but they need to find a better way to follow those. I love the idea of having a curated collections of ToM parts that I can keep an eye on.

When you create a new thing, you can categorize it yourself. It turns out, people aren't great at categorizing things. Thingiverse needs some librarians =)

Ok, I see.  The 'categories' are broke.  Only the first 12 items relate to the category.  Once it pages down, all of the remaining items are identical for every category.  Should be fixable.

Here's my biggest complaint...So when I am scrolling through the newest things, or any other category and lets say I scroll about 20-30 pages down and then click on an item that catches my eye...no problem...but, when I click back in the browser, it takes me back to the very beginning of that category. Not to the last place I was scrolling from in that category (the 20-30 pages I was already down) this pisses the hell out of me!!

Am I missing something or a setting somewhere that will take me back to the same spot I was at when scrolling??? Anyone know?

At first I thought "eh, they changed the site design.  It's annoying, but I'm sure I'll get used to it", but the more I try to use it, the more I hate it.  In particular, scrolling through hundreds and hundreds of marginally customized stock objects (can't these all be grouped into their own category).  And after scrolling through several pages of stuff that no one would ever possibly care about, you have to do it again every time you reload the page, because some idiot thought it would be better to dynamically generate the page as you scroll through it, instead of a navigation bar that skips you right to the page you were at.

Hey geniuses at Makerbot, this is supposed to be an easily browsable and navigable archive, not a Facebook clone.

+1 for placing any object that's blue into a separate category that
says "not printed", "prototype" or something similar. Seems
many objects are models without photos and recently many are
variations of the same model. It would
reduce the clutter.

Or maybe something like a user preference checkbox we could set to not
show those models.

How about filter anything that doesn't have an "I Made One!" entry to
some other category that is not displayed on the front page. Posting
the STL or plans is one thing. Actually making a physical THING is
something else - and more in line with the intent, I think.

I see two immediate problems with this idea. First, there are a number of people making worthwhile things that simply aren't snapping pictures an uploading them like some sort of young parent for a variety of reason. Somewhere above someone said "this isn't Facebook", and now you're insisting that it should be to help make the "new" section relevant for you.

The second problem is what happends when someone uploads something, and then prints a copy of it later. By then it's too far down the list to hit the front page and you'll still never see it. Might as well just browse the who's making what section if that's all you want.

There's a third problem, too. This method is too easy to get around. Some nonce decides to upload a picture of their chin with the upload and suddenly you're back to clutter.

Now personally I'd prefer all the "generated" items to not be slapped on the front page, and that includes tinkercad uploads and "my scanned head"s. In fact anything coming in through the API, forget it. If you want me to see your thing download the STL (and maybe test print it) and upload it through the front page. Maybe just a "Thingiverse Uploads Only" option would do the trick.

One more question, it seems I don't get mail noticed anymore when someone post in "I made one".
I think too many interesting models get burried under loads of custumized Iphone cases.
Overall I think the new design is nice though, but all together less handy compared to the first version of Thingiverse where you would get the essential.
