I just started some prints and noticed that my ABS extrusion has lots
and lots of air bubbles in it. The filament has been stored in its bag
while not in use. There is no bruising on the filament either. Has
anyone else had this issue?

Some say that is the result of humidity/moisture in(on?) the plastic.

Maybe its just in the air. I am in the DC area and its been monsooning here for the past 24+hours. I was just curious what the cause might be.

What temperature are you running at? Have you done the PID &
thermistor table stuff?

MK4? MK5?

Done all the PID stuff. Running MK5. Using 220 C for printing, although I am trying out the new raft setting Charles Pax posted, I am not monitoring temps while printing and it was towards the beginning. Might have temps for the raft too hot. Would that cause the bubbling? IF so, at what temps does ABS get bubbly during extrusion? Def sounds like if its getting that hot, fumage might be an issue.

If you've done the PID/thermistor settings and think your temps are at
least close to what you told them to be, I'd also vote moisture..

You can try dropping the temperature a bit and seeing what happens. I
also usually print at 220 but sometimes drop down 205-210 when I'm
doing higher resolution stuff. If you find that you can print just
fine at 210, I'd switch to printing at 210.

I am in the Shenadoah valley and am getting the same rain. I seem to get the bubbles in the raft and then not notice it after that. I would call it moisture.

Anytime I've ever seen this it's been due to my extruder being at too
high of a temperature. Even my ~1 year old plastic never exhibited
moisture issues. Unfortunately using lower temperatures can mess up a
PTFE insulator.

Yikes... I just started printing with some brand new ABS (non makerbot)... and am getting bubbles all over... It is a brand new roll... right out of plastic so I'm not expecting it to be moist... I'll go test at some lower temperatures... hmm

Classic moisture- changing heat isn't going to help. You must dry out the filament.

Thanks,

Actually... it looks like it's fine after the raft...
