Hey guys...long story...so I’ve had this printer for not too long, bought it from a friend. It worked absolutely beautifully up until not long ago when the printer wouldn’t connect to my computer. I originally thought it was the software so I fiddled with that. At the same time, I decided to download Makerbot print on another computer and it went all haywire and stuff. So I tried the last thing I could possibly think of software wise...wait for it...my phone. It connected! So I did some complex stuff and tried to send my thing to the printer when I got a network error code (1042). Then I remembered the USB so I tried that and as usual, it failed, I switched cables, adapters to my computer, etc. At this point the main goal was to factory reset it, however...Makerbot being Makerbot they made it virtually impossible to factory reset the printer manually (to I was hoping the common user). So...I was like welp...why not. So I gathered my tools and went to town on this thing. I found the board and tada! Two buttons one said reset and the other said power on. Boom! So I powered on the printer (safely, but not recommended) and hit reset, held down both buttons, did funky combos between the two and believe it or not it didn’t work...surprise, right? So I was like well let’s see where this USB goes so I pulled everything and flipped the circuit board over and obviously I couldn’t tell. Makerbot support is no help whatsoever so do any of you guys know how to proceed?

no clue what I'm taking about. The first computer may not have connected because the port may be in use by other software. The computer is likely the reason there is no connection, conflicts, errors ect…, not the printer. You have not stated what you did with the 2nd computer. Pushing buttons, probably a bad idea.  handling the board without electrostatic protect, not good. Use wifi to connect to the printer. Only if wifi does not work, re install the firmware. Get directions, follow each step exactly.

The only factory reset is in the menus, of the software that is, the buttons on the board won't do squat, reset to defaults is what i think it says in the menus on that model.  The reset button is like a reboot button, and the power on is just that.  You can try anything you want with those buttons, there is no secret factory reset there.

If a plain old USB cable plugged into the computer, no adapters or other junk inbetween won't do anything then its either a software problem, a cable problem, or the board is toast on the printer.  There's not much else you can do on these Fifth gen printers other then contact Makerbot, replace the boards, etc.
