Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum as well as the 3d printing game but i recently invested in a makerbot replicator 2 with 19 hours. I have been researching the best upgrades to install to make more accurate prints. I was noticing that most of these threads were several years old. Since technology has come a long way since 2013 (when the original owner purchased) are the aluminum upgrades to the axis the best upgrades to do first? I should add the all metal extruder was installed shortly after purchasing by Original owner.
THanks in advance,
Tyler

You'll learn and get better by printing things, but expect to print a lot of trash at first. Being in a relationship with your printer takes work. The aluminum z-axis was probably the most effective hardware upgrade I did. Install Sailfish. I couldn't find an SD card that would work, but Sailfish adds larger card support. Keep your PLA dry. Check collections on Thingiverse to see what printable upgrades or fixes to annoyances exist.

Fargo is a good source for quality Rep2 replacement parts. For nozzles and thermal barrier tubes, look to Performance 3D.

Sorry I missed the post.
IMO the you should replace the X carriage so that you can print in higher temps. You also have to get an aluminum version of the idler arm feeder for the extruder. Then if you can find them Z-arms get them but I think the only ones out there are the bolt on braces or a complete shelf replacement. Its amazing just how GOOD a Rep2 actually is once these upgrades are installed. and... Oh yeah Sailfish is a MUST. Be sure to read ALL instructions on installing it (look for it on Thingiverse) carefully!!!
