My makerbot 2x's heated build plate stopped working the other day, so I opened up the bottom cover to see if anything was off. It seems that something happened to the connector. It melted a bit and deposited some white residue. I was thinking of trying to clean it up a bit and replace the connector, but it seems the board is fixed to the machine with some press fit connectors making it a bit of a pain. Does this kind of damage seem repairable? Should the fuse have done something to prevent this?

Thanks

The press fit board connectors weren't as bad as I thought they would be to pull out. I removed the old green connector and, cleaned the board a bit and replaced it, but the bed still won't heat up. Something else must have gone with it. Is there a schematic for the REV H version of the MightyBoard available?

No schematics exist in public for g and h boards.

I measured the gate on the HBP MOSFET, and it stays at 0V when preheat is selected. I traced back the gate pin to pin 17 (Port H, 5) on the AVR. Could it be that an output pin can malfunction, while the rest of the chip is okay? Are there any free pins I can jump to and adjust the firmare to use them instead?

Looks like this is the place to edit. Line 222 #define HBP_HEAT Pin(PortH,5) // OC5B. Now I need to find out if there are any unused PWM pins I can use.

If this is beyond repair, is there a recommended place to get a new board? Should I just contact MakerBot?

As much as I know you want to just make this work, simply repair the board properly, replace the 2560 if it was damaged.
Running alternate firmware and rigging the board sets you up for a lifetime that now when new updates come out, you have to compile from source, make your mods just to keep up.

Yes, contact Makerbot and see what they say.
I do it all the time, tell them you want to order the board. Sure it will take some time through the menus and see what they say. Be warned for some sticker shock.
If you don't buy the board (and trust me, when you hear the price you might lose it), maybe, maybe someone there feels sorry and helps you out.
Again, worth a shot. https://www.makerbot.com/contact-us/

Otherwise, replace the 2560. It can be done, I've done a fair amount of boards by hand with nothing more than a good soldering iron. I even remove the old chip using a penny for heat with a big soldering gun to remove the old chip. Whole process is maybe 20 minutes.
I would offer to fix it for you but I'm traveling for the Holidays and unlikely to be able to do it for a few weeks.
