Hi,

I got this printer as an 'as is' pickup and it seemed ok. Previous owner was not its actual user so I have no idea of its history. Ive printed a few things and had infrequent use with it over the last few weeks. Then I went to use it lastnight and it shows
Heating Failure #1 Software Temp Limit reached. Please Shutdown or Restart.

I figure this is some kind of thermal runaway protection, but the issue is that it happens as soon as I turn the printer on, so nothing has heated up yet. The fan on extruder 1 kicks on at max speed as though its already hot and then the error pops up. I've switched it off/on a few times and itll do it 5-6 out of 10 times. Otherwise it seems to start normal, I can preheat, level and run a print with no issues.

Either your thermistor or your heater core needs replaced.  I would replace both.  I would not keep turning it on, as if one of them shorts, it can send 12v down your 5v line, burning up you main board.

Just replace them.  Search these forums on how to do so.

Oh dang. Ok, it'll stay off for now. Ive already experienced an original Rep dual dump an over voltage into the board when the voltage reg failed.

Good thing is I have another 2x that is only for parts with a couple of perfectly fine heaters and thermistors in it.

Cheers
