Until MakerBot issues a fix for this, the most expedient thing will be to
install an older version of MakerBot Desktop. (You may want to use the
Internet Archive to find older links to older versions. Or figure out
the current link and hand modify it for an older version.) I've posted
links for versions of MakerWare, but that won't help you -- you must have
Desktop for the Gen 5s.
Since you have a Gen 5 machine, you have no choice but to use MakerBot Desktop.
It is the only slicer which supports Gen 5 printers. And, the other unfortunate
thing is that unless your printer is newer than 30 days (or 60 for a Z18), you
will need to buy a support contract from MakerBot to get support. Or pay per
incident or hope that the support folks will handle this free of charge. (Maybe
you're in Europe and have a longer warranty?)
