I added the providence and the boston group to the MakerBot wiki for regional groups.

so I've been trying to get a new z-stage mechanism for the AS220 makerbot, and generally fix it up. I haven't had much time, and A. Double is actually finishing the prints because I got fed up with my extruder failing 75% through all the builds.

my printer is ... um, it works if you jam a paperclip in part of one of the stepper drivers, but then only sometimes. its working, but its stumbling along. I need to replace the stepper drivers.

as220's printer now has a working Z axis, but now needs calibration, and I need top upgrade the teflon extruder piece before it inevitably destroys itself.

we can take a look at your printer and see whats wrong with it. what do you mean by the z axis went too high? the makerbot user forums are usually super helpful.

the toolhead but got it started with the Gen4 interface. I'm going to
skype the builder tomorrow so that may help. How've you been doing
with your printer?

i just saw your post on the makerbot forum
it looks like I was dumb for assuming that Z height script was the
same thing as the auto homing thing that happens at the beginning of
the print, its not, you should run the calibration and it will fix
that problem, i think.
then solder the pins together to fix the boot problem
and then if electrical interference things keep happening consider
twisting the wires, but you should be good to go

thanks so much for your help last night.  I haven't unpacked the ToM since I got home. I know I wouldn't get anything else done if I did. I'm going to set it up again tomorrow morning.  I'm going to try the Zheight fix, etc., if it turns on.  The soldering part will have to wait until my neighbor is home or I see you again. get the files for the pieces you need and if I get this running I'll start printing. I'll let you know if/when the ToM is running.  Also, what was the name of the woman we were talking to at the end of the night? I remember james and mari's names but not hers. they were all cool.

Did the Z calibration work ?

I attached a .zip file containing all the models needed for the z-stage modification for the cupcake. Obviously, having a whole TOM printed z-rider would be awesome. There is a text file called checklist that I've been using to keep track of which parts I've printed. Anyway, I would start with the section of the checklist called "middle", as these are the parts that are hardest for my bot to print. Your current infill setting should be fine for the large pieces, but we might need to increase the infill density for the small pieces, especially the tall, thin pieces. I'm considering going to AS220 this afternoon again, if you have the day off we could hang out there and bring both makerbots.

Hmm, I'd like to be back home by 8. Maybe I would head over at 4? And maybe we could swing by my place and pick up my bot. 71 Keene Street, its up the hill.
