I would highly recommend the Makerbot Thing-o-Matic 100%. We ordered one at the end of last year, two 9th grade boys put it together in about 18 hours, I ran all of the configuration/setups on it, and it's been working great. We use Autodesk Inventor and the students have been able to print some of the parts that they've assembled in Inventor.
