Hello,

I teach at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona and we are
close to buying some Makerbots. Before we invest, however, the powers
that be would like some recommendations from teachers using the TOM in
schools. Any chance some of you out there would be willing to write a
a short recommendation for TOM is, and for working with Makerbot
Industries?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Feel free to email me at nlewkowitz at brophyprep dot org

Thanks!

I am a makerspace founder and work with some local schools on FabLab tech like TOM, arduino, etc
I am very interested in answers people have to Noah's query.
It would be helpful to me and others if people responding could share those insights to this list.

to clarify a bit..
What Subjects do you augment with TOM (or other Fab Tech)?
What grade levels use the system?
How long have you been using it?

Have you all seen the curriculum that just dropped over at http://curriculum.makerbot.com? We've been working hard to develop infrastructure to make it easy for teachers to rock MakerBots in their classroom.

Jerry/Bre,

Thanks for the replies. In response:

We are looking to augment our Introduction to Fine Arts class - we can
do this because each student is required to have a tablet PC in class
at all times. The school's technology mission is geared towards using
the tablet pcs as much as possible. I do see this eventually growing
into its own class and being used by other departments on campus.

We will probably begin with high school freshman (grade 9) who will
have no prior knowledge of how to create 3D models.

Again, I am looking for teachers that can recommend the TOM so that I
can provide written proof to my administration from other schools that
the product and the company are positive attributes for the classroom.
Feel free to email any responses to me directly: nlewkowitz at
brophyprep dot org.

It's great to see Makerbot providing curriculum ideas on their
website, thanks for all your hard work Bre!

Awesome Bre!
Its great to see open source companies putting up curriculum support materials.
Sparkfun has been active in this area too.  They have some good stuff on electronics, mostly centering on Arduino projects.
