Today I stumbled on AspexSoftware's fablab ModelMaker
http://www.aspexsoftware.com/fab_at_school.htm
The software mostly is about making paper craft models, but that link
indicates the package can output STL
They show it with a variant of the Fab@Home printer called Fab@School

If it outputs STL, then we should be able to bring it into Makerbot
production stream.
The whole Aspex Software site looks like a great resource for
educational use of desktop engineering/manufacturing.

Today I heard the FabLab folks were part of a team (Fab@School) that
won a Digital Media and Learning Competition award

The Fab@School team, headed by Glenn Bull, UVa used the silhouette
paper/vinyl cutter and a version of the Fab@Home printer to teach STEM
to kids. It should be fairly straight forward to substitute a
Makerbot for the Fab@ box.
