to Make It Green Houston
Hello everyone,
Thanks for the exciting meeting last week. Many connections were made
and much excitement is brewing. Here's a list of the participants and
some of the projects that they're working on and may need help with.
Nancy Edwards
Has an organization that teaches people to increase their energy
efficiency. She needs help with writing grants, organizing the
scheduling of sessions, help with details.
Lindsey Pollock
She's the principal at Garden Oaks Elementary that is considering
apply to become an environmental magnet school in Houston ISD. She's
looking to set up examples of sustainable practices such as water
catchment systems, solar power, composting, etc. She has many
volunteers, but would need expertise to help organize the projects.
Megan Parks
is remodeling her house and building a garage. She needs help in
restoring her garden after the construction especially raised beds.
She's also interested in building a solar oven.
Aaron
is working on making his home more energy efficient. He's also a high
school biology teacher who's interested in petitioning his
neighborhood to get curbside recycling in his neighborhood.
Paul
He just moved to Houston and is in the process of purchasing a large
home to turn into a housing coop. He needs help with drywall and
other renovation projects to split the large home into smaller
apartments.
Jim Deimer
Has a cabin in Wharton county. His goal is to eventually get off the
grid. A small project that he's working on is a solar powered pump
for his gate and well pump. He also needs his cabin leveled.
Jim Ohmart
He has a storage container that he's interested in turning into a
community tool shed. He needs help with organizing it and building
bike racks inside. He also has the supplies to build a granite and
concrete community horno for baking bread.
David Kreuger
Is building a straw bale artist colony in west Texas. It's an off the
grid building and he needs help with understanding and building 12volt
systems. He also is interested in gardening in dry climates.
All of the folks at the meeting are members of the site. Feel free to
contact them to talk more about their projects.
Over the course of this month, we'll contact some of the people on
this list to set up some formal, organized dates through the rest of
the year.
Thanks,
Brian
