to Make It Green Houston
Hi All!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. As most of you know I am
rehabbing a large house to build a green housing co-op in central
Houston. At the moment I am focused on developing a rainwater
harvesting system that will feed six toilets and two washing machines
with filtered rain water. So far I have a foundation and a 3000
gallon water tank in place behind the house. Jim Bunschoe has been a
great educational aid in helping me develop the system and I am just
about ready to put everything together. Thus, for those who are
interested, I’d like to schedule a date to work on the project and
hopefully finish most of the supply and control system. If you’re
interested in rainwater harvesting it will be a great learning
experience and lots of fun.

Ideally, I’d like to do this next weekend; however, I am open to later
dates as well if this is too short notice. I am having a plumber come
this Saturday to cut and isolate the existing toilet lines so if
anyone would like to come then, feel free, but the big project date
will hopefully be the following weekend. I have the plans ready and
materials purchased, so it’s just a matter of putting it together
(probably easier said than done :). Please let me know if you’d like
to help out.

Thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul,

I would like to participate and already have two commitments for Saturday. I would love to see what you are doing and find out how much it all costs. I am on property totally surrounded by higher neighbors. One of my strategies is going to be collecting water.

I am currently unemployed so capital expansion projects are for the moment on hold.

Maybe you are planning an open house or a green event. Please include me on the list.

Good luck with getting help for your project. It sounds ambitious and wonderful.

Hey Folks,

I wanted to give you an update on my progress. Last weekend a plumber
and I isolated the plumbing lines to the 5 toilets in the main house
and painted them all purple. This Saturday, December 13th, we will
be doing the heart of the rainwater system; specifically:

- install the collection system to catch rainwater from the gutters
- build the first flush filter
- do the electrical wiring for the float switch, irrigation supply
valve, and pump
- contruct the inlet, and overflow pipes in and out of the tank.

If anyone would like to come and learn, it will be a great
opportunity. Jim Bundshoe will likely be there (he's going to be in
Houston anyway) and will help to make sure everything goes smoothly.
If you'd like to come, feel free to drop me an email to RSVP:
paulsc...@yahoo.com , or just show up on 12/13 (address above).

Finally, please share this with anyone who may be interested.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,
I'm not sure if we've met previously or not, but I'm interested in stopping by this coming Saturday to see how your rainwater system goes together...Was hoping you might provide rough directions to Rosalie from the Museum District and approximate time you expect to get started.
Thanks,
Jim Diemer

Paul,
If I'm not mistaken, this coming Saturday is the 12th., not the 13th. So, Sat. or Sun?
