Hi folks, just a wee reminder about forthcoming events.  On Friday 31st July at 7.30pm we’ll be performing at the Kilmaurs Masonic Club as part of the town’s gala week celebrations.  The event is called Pie, Peas and Poetry. Tickets cost £5 and are available at the Weston Tavern, Kilmaurs (call 01563 538805 for details).  We’ll hope to see some of you there.

The one after that involves Sheila and Rowena.  They will be giving a short reading (along with a lot of other poets) at the Scottish Pamphlet Poetry Afternoon at the Edinburgh Book Festival on 16th August.  They’ll be in the Party Pavilion in Charlotte Square from 2 pm – 4 pm.  As well as hearing a lot of quality poetry performed there will be a chance to browse among the many poetry pamphlets being produced in Scotland at the moment. You can check out all the events on this year’s programme at http://www.edbookfest.co.uk/pdf/2009_book_festival.pdf

Rowena took part in an extra special poetry reading last week.  Well, she considered it extra special given that the poetry was part of her wedding ceremony when she got married to Mark Lawrence on Skye on 13th July.  The ceremony included some poems Rowena had written especially for the occasion as well as readings of other poems suitable for such a singular event, for example Tom Leonard’s Epithalamium, which he wrote for his own son’s wedding.  It was a very quiet wedding as their parents weren’t really fit enough to come along so they arranged for a live webcast of the wedding so their family (and friends!) could be there ‘in spirit’.  The web cast can still be viewed at http://www.markandrowenaswedding.co.uk/ if you wish to hear the readings.

We hope to see you at a Makar event soon.

Don’t forget to check out Michael’s blog at http://mickmal1.blogspot.com/  He adds to it regularly.

Best Wishes,

Michael, Rowena and Sheila
