I was a graphic designer about 20 years ago. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on Photoshop. I am re-orientating myself by going through the Tutorials and so many of them DO NOT Work. Like halfway through they seem to glitch and stop giving directions and then stop responding to changes I have made. I have switched workspaces thinking it was a WIFI issue. I updated my Macbook. I made sure my Photoshop was up to date. I don't know what else to do. This is so frustrating. Please help.

I am having problems with the In App Hands On Tutorials. The following ones have been super glitchy. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. For instance I am in this tutorial called Create and Edit Text. I get to step 3, follow the instruction to select the Hike Layer and it freezes everytime. This happens a lot with these tutorials. I am attaching 2 screenshots but it don't really show much.

Just out of interest, you say you worked as a graphic designer 20 years ago. Was it all digital using apps like Photoshop and Pagemaker? Do you go back to the days of Exacto Knives and paste up? I actually used to enjoy doing that stuff, because it was all we had and it wasn't my primary job.

Specifically Combine images to create a composite with layer masks with the deer in the forest picture
and the Tattoo one applying to the woman's back seem to lock up. In the Combine one it is after you choose the brush size and the next thing should be a popup telling you to click Layer Mask, but that popup never happens.

The same thing is happening to me at the same point in the same tutorials, which indicates to me that it is an Adobe glitch, not a setup or computer problem. At least I can stop wasting time trying to figure out what I am doing wrong!

Do the people haviing this issue have anything in common? I can see at least one is using a Mac, so is it runing Ventura, Sonoma? Does it have the M1 or M2 CPU? Note I am a Windows user so not fully up with all things Mac, but we do know there have been compatability issues.

It should surely be possible to point us at the tutorial even it is launched from Discover or Rich Tool Tips. At the moment we havn't got a clue what is going on because no one is giving us any useful information. Give us a chance guys.

I ama also having the problem. I am using the "select part of an object and change the color" tutorial launchedfor the in photoshop hands-on tutorial. I am using the most up to date PS (25.9.0) on a mac desktop MacStudio, M1Max chip running Sonoma 14.5.

When I feel I have completed the first step in the tutorial I am unavble to advance to the next step. The next button is greated out and unresponsive. I have moved the tutorial window off the PS desktop to avoid interactions with the layers panel. In the attached image I have moved it back onto the PS workarea just to include more of the information.

As of six days ago, I actually have a MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro CPU and Ventura now. I have almost zero experience with the Mac OS, but I am enjoying the learning curve, and I will be happy to work through the problematic tutorials if you can give any clues how to find them.

I noticed one of the screen shots further back this thread showed the Free Transform bounding box and handles. This option used to be in Preferences, but has moved to the Options bar along with some new features. These, and other, changes might possibly clash with the tutorials. Note they depend on what tool is selected, so be aware of that.

Sometimes Photoshop appears to freeze when waiting for input, and those windows can be hidden or even off screen. You can usually Escape to close those windows, but Photoshop won't allow any other input until the prompt is either responded to (OK or Cancel) or Escaped out of, which is the same as Cancel.

But, sad to say, newer versions of Photoshop especially, can freeze and hang in some situations. I replaced my previous system with an i9-13900K Windows 11 desktop system just over a year ago, for instance, as the old system would hang every sing time, and at exactly the same when trying to use some of the Neural Filters. The new system never crashes with Photoshop.

I would expect an M1 Mac to be OK, but I am not so sure about Sonoma. I certainly won't be updating from Ventura any time soon. Mainly because of reports I have seen saying that external drives with exFAT format that I need to run on the MacBook and Windows, stopped working with Sonoma.

Hello everyone!, I'm having an issue with the tutorials inside Photoshop, for as awesome as their are at teaching you things sometimes they don't work as they should, meaning it tells you to click something and after you do the program doesn't responds properly (or at all) so you're left being stuck because the tutorial isn't recognizing your input for some reason, maybe?

Here's an example, with the "Turn text into shapes" tutorial, where it asks me to select the Path Selection Tool but fails to properly recognize the input after I'm done selecting the tool in question.

I am also having an issue with a tutorial. I am fairly new to photoshop and have been trying to work systematically through the tutorials. In the get to know layer masks tutorial, I have, as demanded, painted a certain section with black, which is supposed to reveal a second image underneath. It reveals nothing. It is just black. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I can see this is a very old thread, and you'll have long since fixed your issue, but I will add that if Direct Selection and Path Selection tools were not responding, had you definitely changed the Type layer int a Shape Layer? i.e. can you see the path outlining the text?

In this tutorial, we will discuss each aspect of Photoshop tools and editing, including workspace, layers, tools, photo editing, smart objects, blend mode, colors and gradients, selection technique, filters, etc. We will also discuss some advanced topics such as web designing in Photoshop.

We can create images with layers and save them in a different image format such as jpg, png, gif, tiff, etc. The default file format for Photoshop files is PSD. The PSD stands for Photoshop Document, which is a native file format for Photoshop. It saves the works in actual position as it is in the Photoshop workspace. When we open a PSD file, it will open the files with layers.

Photoshop is a premium adobe tool that comes with a 7 days trial period. It is a very popular tool among photographers and graphic designers. It is such popular that the term photo editing is known as Photoshop. It provides numerous editing tools and plugins that make it user-friendly and easy to use for editing.

Over the years, Photoshop has become the leading photo editing software from a small editing tool. The beauty of the Photoshop tool is its unmatched features. It offers several editing features, which are Photoshop exclusive features. None other photo editing software is much capable than Photoshop.

Layers are one of the best features of Photoshop. Layers allow you to work like a separate piece of paper that you can edit independently and later add to your work. The main advantage of using layers is we can edit a specific component of our image or work without affecting the other components.

Photoshop provides an easy-to-manage Layer Palette with some extensive features to manage them, such as opacity (Transparency), layer mask, blending modes, lock, etc. We can also manage our layer stack, such as keep a particular layer up and down by just dragging.

Photoshop selection tools are very handy to use that designers are additive to work with. Photoshop selection tools are improved over the years; nowadays, it provides several advanced selection tools such as marquee tool, magic wand tool, lasso tools, etc., to deal with objects.

The Pen Tool is a very dominating tool of Photoshop. Nowadays, we cannot assume Photoshop without a pen tool. Before the pen tool, the software was nothing but a just editing tool. But, the pen tools make it an advanced designing software. However, the pen tool is not so easy as other tools. It takes time to set the hand on the pen tool, but you can draw anything that you assume once you are familiar with it. It takes the design to the next level.

Photoshop provides several retouching tools to provide a new look to the images. It contains few retouching tools such as the Stamp tool, Pattern Stamp tool, Spot Healing tool, Healing tool, Patch tool, and many more. Every tool has its unique functionality. Adobe has developed its retouching tools over the years.

Smart objects are also a very useful feature of Photoshop. They are a kind of layer that holds image data. The smart object preserves the original data of an image by making it a non-destructive layer.

It is a handy feature for web designers. This feature allows us to generate the CSS code for specific design elements. For example, if we have drawn a rounded corner rectangle on a layer, if we want the CSS code for this rectangle, we can do so by right-clicking on that layer and select the Copy CSS option from the context menu. So it makes it easy to create a web template from a Photoshop file.

Photoshop was originally developed in 1998 by Thomas and John knoll. Since then, Photoshop has been updating itself not only in raster-based graphics editing but also in digital arts. It releases almost every year a new version with some enhancement and improvements.

Its naming scheme is based on the version numbers from 0.07 through version 0.87, which was the first commercial version of Photoshop. In February 1990, all the way to version 7.0.1. It made several minor and major releases before version 8.0 in October 2003.

The Photoshop workspace is its default user interface, also known as essentials. It contains several different palettes. At the top of Photoshop's UI, we can see a menu bar, which holds several menu options such as:

These menus contain several options for creating and editing documents. In this tutorial, we are using the Photoshop CS5 version. The functionality and features will be almost the same for other versions as well.
