When Microsoft finally confirmed last week that Windows 10 April 2018 Update was going to be released on April 30, it also added that the latest version will be made available only via manual download. Windows 10 1803 will begin rolling out via Windows Update starting May 8 globally. However, it appears that the company has actually made the Windows 10 April 2018 Update available via that easier/simpler route already.

Do I just create a new version of the app layer and associate it with the newer OS layer? Do I clone the app layer and then start building from there? Do I do a fresh app layer based off the new 1803 OS build? Are there any "gotcha's" to simply updating the App Layer to the new OS build? Would something like office 2016\365 behave well just updating it to the 1803 OS build?

Windows 10 comes with a new feature called "Cortana". It is a digital assistant which is integrated with the search feature. Windows 10 has a search box in the taskbar, which can be used to launch Cortana and perform the search by keyboard or by voice. Once you type something in the search box on the Windows 10 taskbar, search results show but web search results are mixed with local search results, Store apps and content from Bing. Here is how to disable Internet and Store apps from being searched via the taskbar.

In Windows 10 versions prior to April 2018 Update version 1803, it was relatively easy to get rid of the web search feature. Depending on the OS version, there was an option in Cortana, a Registry tweak, or something like that. Regardless of the version, you could enforce the Group Policy option to disable web search.

This has changed in Windows 10 version 1803. Intentionally or not, Microsoft has broken the Group Policy tweaks, which makes disabling the web search feature a nightmare for advanced users and system administrators. While Enterprise or Education versions of Windows 10 version 1803 are not affected, consumer editions (Home and Pro) can't have the web search disabled.

Providing nothing goes wrong, Microsoft is officially beginning the rollout of the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) on April 30, 2018. This is the fifth major release for compatible devices with new features and changes to improve security, privacy, performance, and productivity.

In version 1803, you'll find new features like Timeline, Nearby Sharing, and Graphics settings. Windows 10 continues the gradual rollout of Fluent Design in the Start menu, taskbar, Settings, and throughout the experience. Users get more control over their privacy, such as options to view and delete telemetry data and deny file access to apps. The Settings app receives a lot of tweaks, including a new section to manage fonts, Microsoft Edge gets updated, and a lot more.

Microsoft released on Monday (30/4/2018) the last big update for Windows 10, known as "Windows 10 April 2018 Update Version 1803". But, as usually happens with many updates, the new Windows 10 1803 update, fails to install on some PC's for unclear reasons.

When the installation of Windows 10 v1803 update failed, the users faces one of the following symptoms on their systems:
Symptom No1: When the download of Windows 10 April 2018 v1803 update is completed, Windows restarts to install update. But, after the system restart, the system stuck during the update installation or at Windows Logo and the only method to get the PC back, is to force shutdown the machine using the Power switch.

Symptom No2: During the installation of the v1803 update on Windows 10, the system suddenly restarts and starts to revert changes and goes to the previous Windows 10 version (v1709). When the previous version is restored, the system starts to download again the latest update for Windows 10 v1803, but the installation of the update, always fails with the same symptoms or gives the error 0xc1900101.

I tried all of these recommendations a couple times, nothing has worked. My laptop stops at 52% on the install during restart and reports "this version of windows could not be installed your previous version of windows must be restored" (I'm paraphrasing).

Here's my experience. I have 3 comps. Any connected to ethernet were able to absorb 1803. NOT the notebook. It was restricted to wifi. No ethernet port. Failed every possible solution proposed on earth. I bought an ethernet to usb converter. Got it going and plugged it into the router. 1803 and all it's components came down slicke'n snot. Why? I haven't a clue. Hope this helps someone.

Updating the BIOS solved my problem as well. My hardware is HP Compaq Elite 8300 ultra small form factor (USSF). I have been trying to install this Windows 1803 update for about 2 years now. Finally it's done. Big thanks to Dinsdale.

Have the issue of 1803 install/fail/retry over and over. Using the above
step (any) won't work on my PC as Windows Update service properties shows it running and all is grayed out. (Yes I'm Admin)
3.Double click to launch Windows Update service's properties.
4. Set the Startup Type to Disabled and click OK.
Doesn't work because everything in is grayed out!

I don't remember for sure, but I had a client last month whose PC had been failing on 1709 since it's release due to out of memory issues and these same steps were called for. None worked. I ended up creating a boot media with the latest patches incorporated and doing the reinstall Windows 10. I wasted so much time trying so many other ways until I bit the bullet and did the reinstall.
What I don't understand is if MS pulled 1803, why is Win 10 Update downloading it (a week ago)

One of the best features of Windows 10 is that it keeps getting better with every update. This PC is currently not running the latest and most secure version of Windows 10. This PC is running version 1803. The latest version is 1809.

Have exactly the opposite situation, and searching has come up with no answer for it. Both our computers, which are up to date and certainly powerful enough to accept 1809, are still using the 1803 no matter what we do to try to update. The W.U. page tells us that we are fully up to date? Strange.

This problem is caused by changes made to Windows 10 since Build 1803. We have created a new package to resolve this issue. Please download the latest version from our website. After that, please upgrade your UserLock installation with this version, then upgrade all installed Desktop UserLock agents (at least for Windows 10 Build 1803 machines).

Windows 10 April 2018 Update (Version 1803) had been released and pushed to all users in April. As with any previous update, there will inevitably be some bugs in the preliminary stage, even some are rather baffling. Therefore, some users who are pursuing stability need to be cautious.

The only solution is to roll back to Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) if you have updated Windows 10 April 2018 and suffered the same problem. Meanwhile, Microsoft has not announced that which specific Intel SSD models may be impacted by Windows update problems, so the Intel users had better not install Windows 10 1803.

But how can you roll back to previous Windows state when Windows 10 1803 crashes computers with Intel SSD? Are you still worried about whether other Windows 10 update problems will occur when you update to Windows 10 1803? Just keep reading and look for ways to do some precautionary measures.

From above information, we know Windows 10 1803 crashes computer with Intel SSD, and also leads to some other Windows 10 update problems. With that in mind, we suggest that you should backup your system disk and files before installing Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

If your computer crashed after updating to Windows 10 April 1803, you can use a bootable media to roll back to previous Windows state with the system image that has been created in advance. Thus you need to know how to create a bootable rescue media and how to boot your computer from it.

Step 3: In the popup windows, you need to choose system disk and target disk. Select the system disk by clicking The Source Disk, then click Finish to continue. Choose a target disk to save the copy by clicking The Target Disk, then click Finish to continue.

After I have updated to Windows 10 1803, my computer crashed. But before that, I have backed up operating system using MiniTool ShadowMaker so that I can roll back to previous Windows state.Click to Tweet

After reading this article, are you still worried about the problem that Windows 10 1803 crashes computers with Intel SSD? Are you still worried about that Windows 10 update failed will lead to some other problems?

Not sure what went wrong but had to recently reinstall EVERYTHING for v4.3. Anyway whenever I fire up P2A, import a flightplan (from simbrief), connect, validate and file, my speech assistant has no entries to select no matter what I select from the drop down menues and no matter what frequency I am on (yes the frequency changes correctly).

Show In-Line Grammar Help is selected. I can press the PTT button (turns green) and say 'say altimeter' and the program responds correctly. Its just that I have no entries in the speech assistant window.

I was found the solution. The problem was that my user in my computer was not an administration user. I read that P2A install grammarhelper file in the administration account, and if the user when is installing the program is a "standard" user, It can't read the grammarhelper file. I was uninstall P2A, change my type of user to "administrator", reinstall P2A and the grammar helper, and speech assistant works fine.

So far (2) of my users in Win10Pro boxes can't associate .dgn files with Microstation. There are other users with same file version/OS who do not have this issue. File association is user-specific, so if i logon as Admin and double-click a .dgn MStation launches with no other steps required. It is unknown as to whether additional non-Microsoft file types are an issue, but adobe and BlueBeam Revue can be set to open PDF's with no problem, and AutoDesk products are working normally.

When they double-click on a .dgn they need to select the program to open it, every time. This is not an emergency issue, but we're pushing more Win10 boxes into the environment and I expect more complaints.

I have been unsuccessful in finding a resolution at Microsoft's TechNet site, and my GoogleFu is obviously lacking...
