Booth will work with any Canon SLR or Nikon SLR camera that supports tethering. Darkroom Booth will also work with most Windows supported webcams, however, our experience shows that spending a little more money on an SLR really pays off with image quality and functionality. Darkroom Booth will work with third party social media sharing apps. One that we have had success with is Picpic Social. Picpic will allow your guests to share their images using an iPad. A tablet version is in the works. Check it out and download a trial here.
Yes, Green Screen functionality is built into Darkroom Booth Software. Green Screen is supported in the photo strips and in Live View so the user will see the green screen background on screen as well as on the print.
Easy to build screens and templates is a key feature of Darkroom Booth. User screens and photo strips can be created on one computer, saved as a single file (all graphics, fonts and layout) and copied to other computers running Darkroom Booth. Darkroom Software is working on a marketplace where you will be able to buy and sell custom screens and templates.
Yes, Booth has very powerful touch screen support. With the screen layout editor you can make buttons of almost any shape and color with text. You can then associate that button with a booth command like start, B&W, color and many others. Click here for how-to video.
Of course! Booth does not require a touch screen. There are keyboard shortcuts and you can program up to 3 mouse buttons (left, middle and right) each to its own command. You can also add arcade style buttons and use a serial interface and use 4 more buttons. Combined that would be 7 total buttons each with its own command.

We know how important it is to keep your photo booth up and running. Oftentimes there is a simple answer or quick fix to common support questions. I asked Wally Carnes, Operations Manager and Booth Guru at Darkroom Software to compile a list of the issues he and his support team hear most often from customers using Darkroom Booth.
Booth crashes or freezes during operation
Check all the USB cable connections especially to the camera. If you are using a hub check that as well. Connections may have loosened during transport and cause an issue. You may need to replace bad cables.
My printer is detected but I get an error message when I go into booth mode that no printer is available
This message is a warning that the printer does not have the correct media or size setting to do the size print you have selected. Check your media and size.
My photos are completely white or black
If you are using an external flash this is the result of your exposure being too high or too low. With external flash, you should be using manual exposure. Start with the flash set to the medium setting and the camera at 1/100 for the Tv and 8 for the Av with ISO at 200. If they are too bright to decrease the flash power if they are too dark increase the flash power. This is a starting point and your settings may vary with the situation.
My flash is not firing
With an external flash, make sure there is a pause set in the Live View tab of at least 1 second. If that setting is there, then this is most likely a cable issue from the camera to the flash.
My green screen photos look ghost-like or transparent
In most cases, this is the result of incorrect exposure on the camera images. In the Prints tab, are they dark? Is the green background bright green all the way to the corners? It can also be the images are too bright.
My emails are not being received
First, make sure you have an email account set up and it tests OK. Next, go to the Prints tab, select the print drop-down at the top and choose Show Print Queue. See if there are any errors shown.

On the left side, I can switch between a GIF, Print (which adds frames and props), and simple Photos. On the right side, I can get the picture to my phone or email, print it (provided I have the equipment), or share it on Twitter.
What I like about dslrBooth are its robust settings and options. The software is a real powerhouse and I can see a dedicated photographer making magic with it. That is, if he or she is willing to invest time learning to use it as it can be quite complex.
Regarding performance, I tested this software on a very beefy computer and found the experience to be laggy. At one point I had 4-5 warning popups appearing at once when things went wrong, 3-4 second delays between my clicks and software responses, and +10 second loading times connecting the camera to the app.
Overall dslrBooth is an amazing program for photographers who want to keep it old school. If you have a decent camera, studio light, and a laptop laying around and a wedding or a party coming up, then grabbing a copy of dslrBooth is a no-brainer.
