ClickAnalyze Transportation (Traffic Simulation).Traffic simulation mode starts and component roads are highlighted. If the roads in the study area are not component roads, select each planning road in turn, right-click, and click Convert to Component Road.

Click points in your design to draw a traffic study area.As you draw the traffic study area, demand zones are added where the study area crosses component roads. Demand zones are destinations or origins for trips.

Click Run Simulation in the traffic study area panel to run the simulation and create an animation file. This can take some time. When the analysis is complete, the Animation Player lists the animation with a status of Ready.

On the Traffic Study Area panel, set Result Volumes to Per Lane, Per Approach, or Off.Color-coded queue lengths based on demand are added to the traffic study area. The color represents the delay time. Queues are shown as red if the delay exceeds a threshold.

Use the Animation Player to run traffic animations. You can adjust the speed of the animation as needed using the speed buttons in the Animation Player.Note: It's easier to see traffic animation if you set Result Volumes to Off.

I wonder if it is possible to change the style/types of vehicles displayed when you run a simulation in the traffic simulation mode (not in TAP). At the moment I only get one type of red cars and one type of yellow truck, even if I have busses set in TAP for parameters/vehicles and a separate demand matrix for busses. Tried to solve this with style rules but from what I've managed to fix it seem like that's only applicable to "static" city furniture. Please, tell me I'm wrong Would be nice if there is a way to set what types of vehicles are displayed when you run a simulation.

Thank you for submitting your question in our discussion forums. It looks like Edmundo provided you with the steps to change the style/types of vehicles displayed when you run a simulation in the traffic simulation mode, so for now, I will mark his reply as "Possible Answer." This won't prevent other folks from commenting on this question though, in the event other ideas come up!

Finally managed to get my hands on this but sadly don't get all the way with your detailed step by step. From step 7 I don't get/understand what I'm supposed to do in reg editor, could you post an image of the directory and what I'm supposed to do in reg editor? Am I supposed to add a key or a string value or what? There's only reg_sz-files (see picture below) in that directory and I'm not used to work with reg editor so want to make sure that the procedure is made correct.

I think you are not seeing the Vehicle Library because you are using the InfraWorks Rolling Sandbox. Please download the deliverable version and try it there. I have only tried it on the deliverable version and it works perfectly well.

After some scrolling and searching it seems to be this rolling sandbox-version available at the feedback community. Is that what you are refering to? If so, I guess I need to download and install that version to get this going, correct?

Hi! Not sure what you are referring to regarding the deliverable version... I use a "regular" version installed from desktop app, registered through my work account, commercial license. Haven't installed anything else than updates and hotfixes through desktop app, so not using the sandbox-version I'm pretty sure of!

With that said, I still don't get that "Vehiclelibrary" shown in the regeditor through my version of Infraworks, so I guess I need to add it myself. When adding the string by myself, why can't I do that in the reg editor for the deliverable version? In other words, do I need to download this sandbox-version to get fix this?

I understand now. No need to download any other version. Please go ahead and add the string manually with proper naming along with the vehicle content by right clicking and selecting New > String Value

So, me and my colleague have tried your solution but can't get it right for some reason. It seem like the new vehicle library is read but it only simulates two or one type of vehicles and I've added around 20 of them in thougt that it would randomize between them all... Tried to use colon or semi colon between the vehicles in the string value but did no difference. Any more suggestions?

If one or two custom vehicles appear once simulation is run, then it is probably something related to the 3DS file specific to the vehicles. Please verify that the 3DS files are properly exported in Max as some vehicles

I've tried to use the vehicles already implemented in the program that are used in traffic analyst panel (TAP) and Mobility simulation module (MSM), but apperantly not implemented as standard randomized for the simulation in Infraworks. These are located in folder C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\InfraWorks\Resources\LocalLibrary\Shared_Assets\3DSMaxContent\Vehicles, as you referred to in your previous replies.

Tried a couple of different setups with different vehicles in the regeditor "vehiclelibrary" again now and it seem like it changes the vehicles but still just only 1 or max 2 types of vehicles randomized even though 5-10 added in the "vehiclelibrary" in regeditor. Also there seem to be a difference when running "quick simulation" and my own simulation scenario. In quick simulation it has now "stuck" with one vehicle (porsche Cayenne) even though that vehicle is removed from the regeditor "vehiclelibrary", same thing when I've removed the string value as it was originally, i.e. no "vehiclelibrary" in regeditor.

I've attached a couple of the vehicles. Also got a question regarding the .sff-files. For some vehicles there are more than just 1 file, namned buss1.3ds.sff, buss2.3ds.sff etc. Do all these need to be implemented or are they just different versions of the same vehicle?

The reason why you are still seeing previous results although some vehicles have been removed from the registry is because the simulation remains in memory. Exit out of the program, go back into the model, run simulation and then only the vehicles in the registry will be visualized.

Now, regarding the percentages of vehicles. The default vehicle library delivered with the product belongs by default to either the Small, Medium, Large Cars or SUV's Divisions. Custom Vehicles are assigned the Van Distribution Demand Division. Therefore, the registry incorporates the custom vehicles but does not randomize based on the number of *.sff files present on the registry. In order to then distribute custom vehicles, right click on the simulation, and select Traffic Analyst Panel. Inside the Analyst Panel,

Finally, once you import 3DS, OBJ, FBX files into the Model's Style Palette, some styles are created with multiple Models. They all have to be renamed to 3ds.sff as explained in the original email. Likewise, they should all be copied to the C :\ProgramData\Autodesk\InfraWorks\Resources\LocalLibrary\Shared_Assets\3DSMaxContent\Vehicle directory and of course, be part of the registry to be visualized correctly during simulation.

Once you update the configuration, you have to re-run the simulation. The animation results will be downloaded to your local machine and they are also maintained on Cloud for 30 days. If you switch to another machine after 30 days, the results will not be available for that machine.

1) Default roundabouts created in InfraWorks translate to a specific series of lanes and links in Traffic/Mobility Simulation. For your specific configuration, having two branches with one lane and the other two branches with two lanes in the roundabout, the inner lane along the roundabout shares the same links and nodes as the outer lane along the roundabout:

Since the default configuration creates the roundabouts with the inner and outer lanes of the roundabout with a common node, then even if you delete the links, the movement is still going to be performed during simulation.

Once this configuration is cleaned (you will have many more tools and controls using Mobility Simulation rather than Traffic Simulation), users have full control on movements, especially on intersections. This should also resolve the overlapping vehicles during simulation. Please also check the Minimum Gap distance under Behavior as this controls the minimum distance between vehicles during simulation.

2) If simulations were saved for every traffic study area in proposals, they should be available. If they were not, the list will not be available upon loading the simulation command and a new set of simulations should be ran for every different condition.

I am starting to use the Traffic Simulation, so I don't know what is the difference with Mobility Simulation. I will try to use the mobility. The specific question is, when should I use the Traffic or the Mobility Simulation?

3) I think you didn't undestand my question. Specifically what I was asking was about creating a green wave in a model of 10 light intersections, but all the intersections are separated a different distance, and when I try to define a offset in the plan tab on one intersection and try to change it in other intersection, it changes the value in the first one. See the images below that, first, in intersection 3 I put 5 seconds offset and the on int. 4 I put 7, then return to 3 and it automatically appear 7.

That is true; one cannot see the results volumes, however, the preview shows traffic moving. What I experienced previously once or twice is that the preview shows well behaved traffic as opposed to what sometimes happens in the Traffic Study area.

2) I have tested over and over the Plans issue scenario with a wide variety of offset values. It always works. I completely understand where you are coming from but I am not able to replicate it. Even with scrambled intersection names (not making sense from a modeling standpoint of view), the values are honored. Furthermore, once I simulate, not only the numbers are making sense, but the signals are modeled to the exact second. Kindly share your model with me as we absolutely need to get to the bottom of this.
