Hi - I am having serious issues downloading and streaming content on my Deco x60. In particular, streaming or downloading content on Netflix is a problem (on my ipad, iphone, and tvs). I frequently get an error. I have also tried changing my IPv4 DNS, turned off (and on) beamforming and fast roarming.
In addition to the netflix issues, other streaming services sometimes do not work. Finally, when I try to download large files for work, it only downloads 3-5MB of the total and then stops and says download failed.
On all of the devices, other services, such as google, youtube, etc. work and have no issues. And when I test the internet speed, it says I have no problems, with over 100 Mbps down and 40 mbps up. Thank you for your help.
I was testing it again, and it seems like it isnt as much of an issue when I am connected to the main deco, only to the mesh ones. Not sure if it matters, but I am using ethernet cables to backlink with the main deco. The problem is that I am mainly connected the mesh / endpoint decos, not the main one. Also, it appears that if I connect to the main deco (over wifi), download something on netflix, and then go to a different area and use the mesh, streaming sometimes works for a short period of time, then fails again.
For the last several months, my video quality while streaming Netflix on both my appletv4K and the native app of my LG tv has been dwindling. Rarely hitting 4K for more than a minute. The video even buffers at times. This issue does not happen with other service providers such as AppleTV+ or Amazon Prime Video.
I have internet at 120GB and all my set up is hooked by Ethernet cable. When doing speed tests it shows 120GB+ as expected. I have tried factory resetting both my router and my Apple TV, reinstalling the Netflix app, nothing will fix it.
The fact that your modem is NOT in bridge mode, also means you are in double NAT, which can cause issues. The Modem has the External WAN IP. But then your google WiFi router gets an internal 192.168.x.x IP, which then in turn also has it's own DHCP which it provides to your devices. If that DHCP is also on same segment as that DHCP provided by Fuzz modem, it can cause all sorts of conflicts.
Having a double NAT will definitively cause problems. If you are using your own router (Google Wi-Fi router) to broadcast your wifi signal, Fizz's modem-router need to be set in bridge mode so it won't create its own wifi signal.
Test the speed (one time with and one time without Adaptative QOS) to see if its working properly. On or off, it shouldn't make a huge difference, especially if there is not many devices on your network using heavily Internet.
If the problem continues, you can contact Fizz customer service by opening this link: -issues and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, then click on it to start your chat session with Fizz customer service.
When you do a speed test, try using and see if you can hit your 120Mbps. fast.com is actually powered by netflix, so it should be more representative of netflix speeds (since it will at least use the same routing). I just tried it on mine and I get a steady 120Mbps to 130Mbps and I also have the 120Mbps package wired.
Like Emporium said, if you are using your own router, be sure to put Fizz's Modem-Router in Bridge Mode if you haven't done it already. You can find instruction for this here: -can-i-use-my-own-wi-fi-router-fizz
Also, if you do use your own router, you might wanna check if some kind of Adaptative QOS option is enabled. Depending on how many devices are connected to your router, disabling Adaptative QOS might help with your problem, or not!
@Agima @Emporium I switched off the WMM (QOS) in the Fizz Modem and Router settings. And tried connecting my appleTV using the Fixz Wi-Fi instead of the Ethernet cable and it seems to have solved the drop in quality issue on Netflix which is great. However when I run a speed test my speed is around 20mbs as opposed to 120mbs. It seems sufficient to run the stream properly though.
The Wi-Fi I use in my home is usually the one that the Google Wi-Fi Router generates (hooked to the Fizz modem via Ethernet). If I use that network on my AppleTV, the Netflix stream will drop as usual.
@Agima @Emporium thanks for Your responses again. So I put the modem in bridge mode this morning and it seems like none of my Ethernet ports are outputting an internet connection. Whether I connect my router or my AppleTV, no external device is getting a connection. Please see below a picture of my ports (the white cable is the google router).
With exception of the Ethernet port/cable (#4) that goes to my TV, non of the ports are indicating a green light. In the case of my tv, I do get internet, but it is super slow, barely loads a video on YouTube. I recall this had been an issue back when I had put it into bridge mode initially and support had not been able to help me. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.
In Bridge mode, you effectively REMOVE all routing from the Fizz modem. Bridge mode is designed to hand over routing functions to another router (like your google router). So the only think the Fizz modem will do at that point, is provide the WANIP to the FIRST port connected to the modem. That's it. The rest of the ports will NO longer provide any communication. The modem becomes effectively JUST a modem, no routing.
This effectively gives YOUR router the WAN IP, and therefore there is no double NEtwork translation from LAN/WAN twice. Your router does the NAT, and essentially communicates to the outside world. The Fizz modem becomes essentially just a dumb modem.
@Agima thank you for your answer! I followed the steps, everything works, the only issue was due to the fact that some ports were deactivated in BM. Now, in bridge mode i get the signal through that one port to my router and internet is at 120mbs. So a I bought an Ethernet Switch/splitter to get additional ports that I hooked to my router and now everything is connected properly. Thank you very much for all your help. All the best.
At last, my collection is complete. Just the other day I received my invite to the beta of Redbox Instant. I was excited. The idea sounds great: it's like Netflix, but you also get four monthly credits at Redbox rental kiosks! Awesome, right? What's that? Verizon has something to do with it? Well, no matter. It's not exclusive to the carrier's handsets, so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about! I'm ready to get my hands all up on this thing.
Note: This is currently an unreleased preview product, and comes with all the requisite disclaimers. I will leave this blanket 'things could get better by the time it's released' caveat here, because repeating it every time I mention something bad would be too cumbersome.
I promise, I will have at least some nice things to say about Redbox Instant during this hands-on, but you will probably not know it if you only read this section because the process to get into the beta is god awful. Not just bad, but broken. If you score an invite and use Chrome, may I recommend you change to Firefox, because I had multiple occasions where entering required info returned errors that were not reported, and the page simply stared at me.
Assuming you don't encounter the bugginess of the sign-up process, however, the design of the invite accounts is unbelievably weird. You must provide your access code each time you log in, and on every device. You cannot use an invite code to give your account access and expect the server to simply remember. I have signed up for hundreds of accounts for things over the years and have never encountered this idea. Whatever. Keep that initial email handy.
Of course, the invite code problem will be moot by the time the service goes public, but the rest of the issues are very worrying. There are only a couple of months left until Redbox Instant is slated to go live and billing seems like an essential service. While it's possible that this will be ironed out in that very short amount of time, there are a lot of things that need fixing and this doesn't give me warm, happy feelings about the potential here.
Once you're in, the quintessential problem of any web service rears its ugly head: "Alright. Now what do I do?" Most of you have probably heard that Redbox Instant is like Netflix, so you'll be looking for movies to watch instantly, right? Well, that's where things immediately become weird. You see, this site isn't just designed to get you to streaming movies. Movies that are available in retail kiosks, as well as streaming movies you can rent for a fee or buy outright (similar to the Play Store model) are all mixed in. When I first logged in, here is what I saw:
That big banner at the top featured three slides, each with two hero images. Of the six total promoted slots, five were movies (one was a collection) and only two were available for streaming. Ted, The Dark Knight Rises, and Pitch Perfect were all promoted, but only available online if I paid extra. This has already resulted in some confusion on the part of users who found their credit card charged to watch movies. For what it's worth, it's impossible to rent a movie without multiple steps that inform you that you will be paying extra money. However, since you are required to include a credit card on your account (so they can charge you a subscription fee when your free trial runs out), it's relatively easy to breeze through it, or for someone else to spend money with the account you left logged in. It's not designed poorly, per se, but given that the subscription option is what everyone is eager to try, this bizarre integration is likely to trip up users.
Discovery isn't that great, but it's not much worse than Netflix. Search, however, is fundamentally broken. Typing in a movie title doesn't return auto completes like just about every other search engine in the world, but that's something I'm prepared to overlook. However, each time you search for a title, you have to specify what category you want: subscription, kiosk, or rent/buy. Ignoring for just a moment that you also "rent" from the vending machines in stores, so it's not terribly clear to the end user that "renting" here means a streaming rental, the fact that the default search results include all options is just plain obnoxious.
