Problem in installing MVS turnkey

Hi Quasar,

First of all,thank you for starting Mainframes360...it helps a lot to beginners like me as well as experienced in mainframes.You are doing a great job.

I was installing MVS turnkey in my laptop and ran into problem @the last step of installation.Please suggest an answer.

The problem is in installation option,there is no source path address (please refer snap shot in attachment) but happened to see the source path address in installation procedure manual.

Is cygwin is required to install turnkey on my machine.If yes,should i download it before running installation setup of MVS turkey. 

I am trying to install turnkey on windows 7 64 bit machine. 

Just one more question,is their any free 3270 emulator available in market that i can use to learn JCL,cobol and DB2.On google,i found many Hercules software but don't know which one is useful for beginners.

I have attach the screen shot of error.

Hi Anish,

1. Under which folder have you extracted the MVS Turnkey Distribution Files? I am sure, the Install script is not able to find it.

 

Let us know, where you have extracted the distribution. 

 

2. If you have a 64-Bit version of Windows, you would need a 64-bit version of Hercules. You do not need Cygwin to install Hercules.

 

3. Hercules is a software that emulates an IBM Mainframe computer. 3270 Terminal Em is a software that emulates a 3278 dumb terminal, a monitor which was attached to the mainframe computer back in the 1970s. Read the article titled What is a Mainframe Computer? to know about the different peripherals, that can be attached to a mainframe.

Thanks for the response,i was able to install Hercules successfully.

Problem was with my Laptop,i restored it and it worked.

However  after starting GUI,am not getting correct conf. file.

Each file is giving below error.
