Subject: Call Your Senators: Sign Reed's letter to put NHTF funding back in tax bill

IMMEDIATE ACTION

Call Your Senator: Sign Reed NHTF Letter

National Housing Trust Fund Supporters,

Thanks to some excellent work by the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the Housing Action Coalition of Rhode Island, we have an avenue for some last minute advocacy for funding for the NHTF: We need you to ask your Senator to sign on to a letter calling to the NHTF funding to be included in the tax bill.

Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) is requesting that other Senators join him in signing letters to President Obama and Senate leaders Harry Reid (D-NV) and Max Baucus (D-MT) urging them to assure that $1.065 billion for the NHTF is included in the final tax bill that must be passed in the next few days.

Please call your Senators NOW and ask them to sign the letters with Senator Reed. The deadline for signatures is tomorrow, Friday, December 10, 2010 at 4pm EST.

Last week, the funding for the NHTF was stripped from the most recent tax bill offered by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus. You made calls to the White House over the weekend urging the President to include the funding for the NHTF in the tax bill that he was negotiating. The compromise tax bill announced by the White House on Monday did not include the NHTF.

The fate of funding for the NHTF is now back in the hands of the Senate. Senator Reed is leading the charge to get this done before the close of this Congress next week.

Call your Senators NOW and urge them to sign on to Senator Reed's letters.
Click here to get the contact information for your Senators, or call the Congressional switchboard at 877-210-5351.

Senators who want to sign on should contact have staff contact Senator Reed’s staff member James Ahn at
jame...@reed.senate.gov or 202-224-4642.

After calling, please email the National Low Income Housing Coalition at

outr...@nlihc.org to let them know you were able to leave a message.

Thank you for your support and action,

Mary

NO CHILD, SHOULD DIE IN A SNOW BANK!

First off want to tell you Hospitality House Inc is a struggling non-profit hosting an awareness campaign called "No Child (of any age)Should Die in a Snow Bank."

This financially broken non- profit knows Homelessness and poverty First Hand. It knows the places the safety net is broken. It cares about those who need’s our services. And it has a track record of getting the job done.

We all are the children of the creator, whether we be 90 or a yet to be born. or 2 years of age. No Person should sleep in a snow bank  is asking for the human right of life. This campaign 1) Informs the public the Homeless shelters are Overfilled. They have been since the mid 1990’s.

In extreme weather below 32 degree, in actual temp or with wind chill, people are more likely to become sick, and require hospitalization, or die. The solution of compassion and wisdom is to prevent people from suffering the cold, to re-house them.

Empty buildings, being utilized for this is an untried solution. But Let no one die in a snow bank wants to find apartments for those in need.

This will entail a lot of speaking engagements in schools Clubs Churches etc. It will require a lot of donations, renting and heating empty apartments, for staff.  Also this crusade of love, will require funds to aid with deposits. And it’s going to take a lot of caring by ordinary people. We need everyday people to line up Places to speak. To tell your organizations so they can join, to volunteer as staff in your additional “warm spots”.

It necessitates WISE SPENDING. Keeping the un-housed from sleeping in placing not intended for humans to sleep, SAVES Taxpayers funds in the long run. It saves Hospitalization costs. It saves the lives and the hope of this and future generations.

The non-profit has been around since 1983. It serves to protect Civil and Human Rights of life, of those in dire straits, then help them to dignity and self determination.  But we need your validation of action. Mothers, father’s bothers, children, and daughters are asking for your help. So Hospitality House Inc, can more effectively save and enhance lives.

This campaign has other groups joining No Child Should Die In A Snow Bank and posting to their web sites in Maine and I hope across the USA.

It is at Hospitality House Inc. PO Box 105 Fairfield ME. 04937

Volunteers, What can I do?

Staff for  the ” warm spots”

Line up Speaking Engagements

Call Groups to bring them aboard “No Child Should Die In A Snow Bank” educational  task force

Hand out pamphlets.

Talk to donators.

Make out grant proposals.

Writing editorials on, this campaign, and fighting the causes of homelessness.

We also seek editorials and articles on the number 1 cause of homelessness, is poverty.  And according to the US Labor Dept., 70% of all workers are paid less than the cost of living.

That figures often reaches 90% when you talk about the disabled, and welfare families. We need articles on how broken the safety net is. We seek coverage of the reality of poverty. It’s one dollar less than a livable wage.

That a viable wage, means covering all basic needs at the real prices. We need to discover how much taxpayers will save by designing programs to end 100% of, or most homelessness.

Your ideas of how we can utilize volunteers. As a Love rally, on Valentine’s Day. Or getting things set up for the summer of protecting from the heat and for the 11’-12’ winter.

Help us win economic/social human rights. Like the ones Martin Luther King wrote about.
