 Dear Maine State Legislator:

Oct 30th the Maine Human Rights bill, was passed by the people attending.

This action of improvement  of human rights protections, will place Maine’s investigation of violation of Human rights at the Top of the STATES as the most progressive Commission. IT will not cost any money to make this bill official. It will enhance the quality of life, for 90% of Maine’s population.

Instead of the web claiming “The New York City Human Rights Law is one of the most comprehensive civil rights laws in the nation.” This statement will be uttered about Maine.

So we are looking for legislators of vision from all side of the aisles, to

1)      Have this enacted as the Maine human rights law. To added to constitutional protections.

2)      Give the Maine Human Rights commission the right to investigate discriminatory actions based upon poverty, or being among the 70% plus of workers who are deliberately underpaid according to the US Labor Dept. Or-

3)      Give a special permission for a group the poor to be trained and allowed to investigate their own charges.

MPPEHRC is more than willing to take steps in getting to the place where any type of life degrading actions can be meaningfully examined.  All discriminatory practices which limits all human rights can be addressed, no matter whom is the perpetrator of the harm. A state actor, an individual, or a corporation actions may be examined and decided.

We the 70+% of the deliberately underpaid, will ask primarily for declaratory relief.  But also money relief, if damage was caused by the unthinkable action.

 I repeat, this will place Maine’s investigation of violation of Human rights at the Top of the STATES as the most progressive Commission.

The bill of Rights is:

Bill of Maine Economic Human Rights

1) Every individual has a right to have her/his basic needs met, such as:

 * food and clothing
* permanent housing
* health care
* child care

2) Every individual has a right to income to provide the basic needs of her/his family, through productive employment and/or through entitlements.

3) Every individual has a right to:

* freedom from discrimination in obtaining their basic needs
* seek one's choice of employment
* productive work with equal pay for equal or comparable work at a livable wage
* protections against the ill effects of unemployment
* a standard of living that is adequate for security and well-being..

4) Every individual has a right to:
* form and join labor unions and other groups which protect their interests

* bargain collectively on issues such as pay and working conditions
* work in businesses or cooperatives which provide maximum opportunities for economic democracy
* strike without fear of reprisals.

5) Every individual has a right to education or training to obtain the skills that allow her/him to participate in and contribute to the Maine economy.

6) Every individual has a right to access financial services, including, but not limited to, savings or checking accounts, loans and IRA's.

7) Every individual has a right to access quality legal services regardless of the ability to pay. Bill of Economic Human Rights for Maine

This will place Maine’s investigation of violation of Human rights at the Top of the STATES as the most progressive Commission. And it is to be construed with the upmost leniency as to what is a human right. If a reasonable case can be made that say the right to smoke in ones apartment is a right, that is to be enforced. But rights stop at the harm of others.  Common ways could be no smoking to protect the asthmatic.  And special Area of housing for non smokers at the renter’s discretion, common sense will apply.
