Dear friend,
The Maine legislature will vote as early as this week on a bill that could save hundreds of lives.
Call your legislators today and tell them to support LD 1686 to make the life-saving drug naloxone more widely available.
Despite unprecedented drug arrests in Maine, drug abuse is on the rise and overdose deaths are skyrocketing. We can't arrest our way out of the drug problem – it's time for a health-based approach.
Naloxone is a drug that can reverse an opiate overdose. It is non-addictive, has no effect on people without opiates in their system, and has no street value.
LD 1686 would put naloxone in the hands of law enforcement, first responders, and others who are most likely to be in the right place at the right time.
This bill has the support of medical professionals, psychiatrists, law enforcement, and many others. Unfortunately, Gov. LePage has threatened to veto the bill if it passes. We need the support of as many legislators as possible to ensure a veto override.
If you had the opportunity to save a life, wouldn’t you? Call today and tell your legislators to vote yes on LD 1686.
Thanks for all you do,
Anna, Edward, Grainne, Jon, Karen, Oami, Rachel, Samma & Zach
