MEHRA meetings are open to all allies, including persons who inject drugs, service organizations and concerned citizens. Everyone has an equal voice at the table.
Last Meeting Highlights:
The Alliance last met on Monday, July 15 at Maine General in Augusta. At this meeting we discussed our priorities and the foci for the Alliance. Relevant programmatic foci included syringe access, overdose prevention, safer shooting, HIV and HCV testing, networking, promoting the philosophy of harm reduction, combating drug user stigma, primary and preventive care for people who inject drugs, and other support services such as housing, recovery programs, etc... At our September meeting the intention is to begin identifying long-term goals associated with these foci.
Priorities identified for the upcoming year included increasing funding for syringe access programs and advocacy around overdose prevention.

Hepatitis C testing and linkage to care:
Down East AIDS Network and the Maine Harm Reduction Alliance was recently notified that they will be flat funded for a second year of their HCV Program! Through funding provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control the MEHRA is able to offer Hepatitis C testing and linkage to care to persons who inject drugs throughout the state of Maine. Testing efforts are lead by Maine's syringe exchange programs who conduct testing on-site as well as through treatment and recovery centers, jails, homeless shelters and other programs that serve people with active drug use issues.
